Position: Sexual Assault (0.25) / Crisis Support Counsellor (0.25), Haileybury Office

Hours: 18 per week, flexible to meet the needs of clients and the program

ACCOUNTABLE TO:
Executive Director
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Counsellor is responsible for implementing a counselling program for adult survivors of sexual abuse in regions served by Pavilion Women’s Centre and for ensuring that clients receive appropriate services.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Direct Services:
Provide individual and/or group counseling to survivors of current and historical sexual violence, including assessments, in-depth interviews, referrals, accompaniment, advocacy, etc.
Use a harm reduction and trauma-informed approach
Establish, coordinate and facilitate group counselling programs
Assess, screen and orient new clients
Participate in case conferences
Provide support to other programs as needed
Community Development/Education:
Establish and maintain professional relationships with staff in relevant community agencies and institutions
Maintain resource library related to violence against women
Participate in community committees as required
Develop and implement public education and promotional events and activities, including workshops and seminars
Administrative Support:
Ensure that the counselling environment is safe for clients and fellow staff
Maintain appropriate client records, including statistics, for services provided
Participate in ongoing program evaluation
Assist with agency events and fundraising campaigns
Provide orientation and training to new staff and volunteers
Assist with volunteer supervision
QUALIFICATIONS:
Undergraduate degree in counseling or social work or the equivalent combination of training and experience. Registration with the College of Social Service Workers, Social Workers or Registered Psychotherapists preferred.
Direct experience working beyond the crisis intervention stage with survivors of current and historical sexual violence, including experience (theoretical and practical) in assessment, counseling and group work
Sound background in women’s and sexual violence issues
Knowledge of medical, police and court protocols related to sexual assault
Working knowledge of the health and social service network in the community and surrounding area
Well-developed skills in crisis intervention, conflict resolution, advocacy, case management
Ability to apply trauma-informed counselling techniques
Ability and willingness to work flexible hours
Valid Ontario driver’s license or transportation to perform the duties of the role.
Vulnerable Sector Check that is satisfactory to the agency.
Basic computer skills
Bilingual (French/English)
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Lift approximately 20-25 pounds.
Occasionally, lift or place items at height.
High concentration levels.
WORK CONDITIONS:
Office with regular hours (18 hours per week). Some flexibility required to meet the needs of the program and the clients.
Interruption level is low.
Travel within in the district is required.
