Job Description - Maintenance Manager

Maintenance Manager for Renewable Energy Plant – Margam

The Role
Reporting to the Plant Manager, you will be responsible for managing all aspects of the site maintenance function (including planned, strategic (Lifecycle) and reactive), to ensure high levels of safety, plant availability, performance and reliability within approved budgets through utilisation of the skills within your team. You will work with Operations Manager to ensure a high level of service and compliance with all relevant legislation.

Maintenance activities carried out by in-house and contract staff will be supervised by you. Working closely with the Plant Manager and Operations Manager on site you will work to manage and rectify plant performance issues to ensure that the plant achieves the maximum availability and performance capability. You will work with the HSEQ department to advise on maintenance matters as required for the implementation of relevant Quality Standards, such as ISO 14001 and 45001.

You can look forward to a challenging position, where you ensure that all planned maintenance activities run smoothly, all unplanned activities are managed in a tiely manner and the necessary maintenance projects are carried out in line with stakeholder expectations. Therefore, this role requires a flexible approach as some projects will be scheduled during weekends, nights and bank holidays.

Other key duties include:

  • Supporting the maintenance team, giving guidance on repair techniques, contractor selection, priorities, training, developing and evaluating the performance of staff.
  • Developing the new CMMS system and setting up report functions to enable predicative maintenance to be carried out.
  • Leading by example and managing the safety standards for the maintenance department and for all support contractors. Ensuring proper and thorough safety documentation is completed as required to meet Site Safety Rules.
  • Annual strategic management and organisation of the maintenance function; setting budgets and strategies, reviewing and re-organising as required and ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation.
  • Taking a lead role and directing maintenance issues relating to plant reliability and availability, liaising with the Plant Manager and Operations Manager when appropriate and sharing best practice with colleagues across the business.
  • Planning and managing maintenance outages including CDM management, specification of work, quality control and co-ordination between all parties involved.
  • Overseeing the use and development of the CMMS, stores and management systems to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of the maintenance function.
  • Ensuring that the stores levels are maintained, and reviews of plant areas are carried out to increase levels where required.
  • Monitor attendance and promote regional and local health and safety meetings.
  • Assist with toolbox talks and campaigns to promote and maintain the safety culture within the team.

You

  • 5+ years Thermal Power Plant Engineering/ Maintenance Management experience.
  • Degree/ Foundation Degree/ HND level Engineering qualification preferred. HNC minimum.
  • Current knowledge of UK legislation relating to the operation of Power Generation/ Thermal Treatment facilities.
  • Demonstrates a background of identifying and implementing a methodology of continuous improvement in the workplace, problem solving and a practical approach to solving engineering problems.
  • Experience of managing planned maintenance routines, outages and ongoing population of the maintenance CMMS systems.
  • Previous Power Plant experience an advantage.
