Job Description - Assistant Professor of Quantum Algorithms

The Novo Nordisk Quantum Computing Programme (NQCP), invites applications for a fixed term Assistant Professor position (2-4 years) in the field of quantum algorithms, with potential for application in chemistry and life science. The appointment can be either at the Niels Bohr Institute or the Department of Chemistry.

Applicants are expected to hold a PhD in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics or Computer Science and be active in the field of quantum computation, ideally applied to chemistry or life science.

The assistant professor’s duties will primarily include research, including obligations with regard to publication/ scientific communication and research-based teaching with associated examination obligations within quantum computing. To a limited extent this may also include performance of other duties.

The environment
The appointment will be in the Department of Chemistry or the Niels Bohr Institute and the appointee will be affiliated with NQCP,  nqcp.ku.dk   As one of the initial leader team appointments in the Algorithms and Applications area of NQCP, the assistant professor is expected to take a leading role in developing the quantum algorithms area within this programme, with a vision to solving problems of chemical and biological significance on fault-tolerant quantum computing hardware.

Assessment of applicants will primarily consider their level of documented, internationally competitive research. The ability to attract external funding will be considered together with outreach qualifications. Teaching qualifications are not mandatory but documented teaching qualifications and teaching experience will be considered. Six overall criteria apply for assistant professor appointments at the University of Copenhagen. The six criteria (research, teaching, societal impact, organisational contribution, external funding and leadership) are considered a framework for the overall assessment of candidates.
