Fundraising Content Officer
Organizational Setting and Work Relationships
Within UNHCR’s Division of External Relations (DER), and the Global Communications Service (GCS), the Donor Content and Communications Unit leads on fundraising content and communications to raise awareness, garner support and catalyze action to raise resources for UNHCR’s programmes. Specifically, the Donor Content team is charged with ensuring that UNHCR’s PSP network - which includes market affiliates and national partners around the world - has the content, tools, resources and best practices to run effective fundraising programmes, empowering income-generating teams to deliver increased resources to UNHCR’s budget.
This position is a global role that sits within the Global Communications Service’s Donor Content and Communications team.
The incumbent is responsible for producing content that supports markets in their fundraising efforts. S/he is guided by the overarching global fundraising content strategy and workplan developed jointly with PSP, and coordinates with PSP counterparts to make day to day decisions about what content should be created. The incumbent has a strong understanding of the strategy and works with content creators to generate relevant ideas and topics for the editorial calendar.
The incumbent will work closely with the Head of Unit and Senior Communications Officer to have a sound understanding of the content strategy which reflects higher-level organizational objectives and the needs of the different clients. Further s/he will engage with PSP markets and regions to acquire a sound understanding of donor needs and will liaise with communication colleagues at global and regional level to ensure content coordination across teams and channels. The incumbent works closely with the colleague(s) in charge of emergencies and shows flexibility and collaboration when emergencies (one of the biggest accelerators of growth) require a temporary re-prioritisation of the development of content goals.
As a member of GCS, this position will be responsible for helping to progressively increase income to UNHCR from the private sector through the development of stronger donor communication both for Individual Giving and Campaigns and for Corporate Partnership, Foundations and Philanthropy programmes.

Duties
Ensure that PSP markets worldwide have access to a regular flow of high-quality, impactful content and products for use in communication to individuals and leadership donors. Content is driven by the overarching global fundraising content strategy, which reflects market needs, relevant issues according to UNHCR’s mandate (refugee, internally displaced and stateless), and is grounded in fundraising best-practice and on-brand to build a lasting connection with UNHCR’s work.
Provide guidance and advice to markets in case of emergencies and changes of priorities due to political/humanitarian developments.
Coordinate various aspects of the production (research, content gathering, scripting, editing, layout) and delivery of donor-focused fundraising communication content for both IG and PPH audiences, in line with PSP strategic objectives and priorities.
Effectively manage the workflow of internal and freelance content creators to oversee that content gets finished and distributed /published on time.
Improve content processes, implement solutions to ensure that the team is functioning efficiently, and ensure quality and compliance with guidelines, consent forms etc.
Create, review and update editorial content.
Contribute to the strategic content planning exercises on a quarterly basis with key stakeholders, with regular reviews and flexibility to adapt each trimester.
Develop and maintain an editorial calendar and tracking mechanisms which guides the work of the team and supports overarching global fundraising content strategy.
Monitor organizational/political and humanitarian developments globally which can affect content planning. Stand ready to support emergency colleagues when reprioritization is required.
Manage timely delivery of content by the team. Ensure the GCS Trello planner is updated for content as needed, to ensure content coordination across teams and channels.
Liaise with key content and other related teams throughout UNHCR to ensure sharing of information and content with the PSP network.
Support effective uploading and archiving of content on the Refugees Media Library.
Plan and coordinate missions to gather high-quality multimedia content for global campaigns, PPH partnerships and emergencies as needed, in line with PSP strategic objectives and priorities.
Act as producer on fundraising content gathering missions to ensure that high-quality content is captured for fundraising purposes, including planning the mission, interviewing subjects and coordinating post-mission outputs.
Review incoming content from missions conducted by other team members and plan outputs and mission de-brief sessions.
Write video scripts and support editors by providing feedback on video drafts and outputs.
Provide scripting, writing, proofreading and editing support for global PSP materials.
Ensure scripting, format and products are in line with the latest best practices for relevant fundraising channels, including digital and social, and optimize products to target respective audiences.
Commission and contract freelance content creators as needed for the delivery of projects.
Support the identification and management of risks and seek to seize opportunities impacting objectives in the area of responsibility. Ensure decision making in risk based in the functional area of work. Raise risks, issues and concerns to a supervisor or to relevant functional colleague(s).
Perform other related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications

The position plays a central role in ensuring that Private Sector Partnerships markets worldwide have continuous access to high quality, impactful fundraising content including video, photography, graphics, made-for-social assets and raw content. The role supports the delivery of UNHCR’s global fundraising priorities by ensuring that content is aligned with market needs, grounded in fundraising industry standards, and responsive to evolving political, humanitarian and organizational developments. Operating within UNHCR’s overarching fundraising content strategy, the position acts as a key enabler for PSP markets, providing timely, usable and adaptable content that supports donor acquisition, engagement and retention across Individual Giving and Foundations and Corporate Partnerships audiences.
Key Responsibilities:
The role oversees the end-to-end production of donor-focused content, including research, content gathering, scripting, editing and layout. This includes managing workflows for internal teams and freelance producers to ensure the timely delivery, publication and distribution of fundraising products.
The incumbent strengthens content processes, ensures compliance with editorial and consent guidelines, and maintains consistently high standards across all outputs.
The position works closely with field operations to source engaging, timely and authentic content and is responsible for turning around quick fundraising clips and visuals. This includes simple mobile footage from the field and half-produced content for finalization and channel optimization by markets.
The role also contributes to guidance and capacity-building for field operations on mobile content gathering. The incumbent contributes to writing and reviewing scripts and provides editorial support for global PSP fundraising products, ensuring clarity of message, appropriate tone and alignment with donor audiences.
In close collaboration with the Head of Unit/Senior Communications Officer, the role leads regular strategic content planning exercises with key stakeholders to align outputs with evolving fundraising needs.
The position maintains an editorial calendar to guide delivery and closely tracks global organizational, political and humanitarian developments to inform planning and support rapid reprioritization during emergencies.
A core function of the role is the planning and coordination of multimedia content gathering missions in support of global fundraising campaigns, emergency response and donor engagement. Acting as producer, the incumbent ensures that high-quality fundraising content is captured and oversees post‑mission planning, debriefing and output development. The incumbent closely collaborates with various teams in PSP and GCS, particularly the PSP campaigns team, the PPH comms team, the Video team and the Social team.
