Head of Special Operations
Reports to: Head of Global Security & Business Resilience

Location: Copenhagen/Europe

We are looking for a seasoned Global Leader for our Special Operations team working with illicit cargo across our supply chain. This leader will drive a team of 2 direct reports working closely with the wider security and business resilience community as well as other internal and external stakeholders. The majority work is to evaluate, strengthen, structure, and actively drive AP Moller-Maersk’s Illicit Cargo strategy, roadmap, and execution across relevant internal and external stakeholders especially relating to Contraband (CB) and drug trafficking. You will be part of the Global Security and Business Resilience management team and represent the function externally in networks, working groups, and international communities of interest such as international law enforcement, UNODC, World Customs Organization, World Shipping Council, etc. You will be expected to possess a senior management presence and you need to be capable of building trust while balancing restrictions and expectations. This leader will eventually need to be the trusted advisor on illicit cargo to senior management, and an understanding of international law, illicit cargo trafficking, and public relations could therefore serve you well. The role should preferably be based in Copenhagen, Denmark, or Europe.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead a team of two regional Senior Special Operations Advisors, while utilizing the threat intelligence analyst capacity in the wider Security and Business Resilience team.
  • Efficient and effective illicit cargo and CB strategy and framework execution, including developing clear SOPs for frontline workers.
  • Manage and coordinate with the cross-functional taskforces – Terminals, Fleet, Regulatory & Public Affairs, Legal, Tech/Cyber, People, Operations, Logistics & Services, Communication & commercial teams.
  • Develop structured documentation of efforts, meetings, performance and cross-functional efforts.
  • Create awareness of CB-related threats and risks (operations & people) to Sr. leadership.
  • Strengthen brand reputation as a responsible company against media and external networks (WSC, WCO, UNODC, etc.) including country authorities.
  • Support development of a solid media and public affairs strategy with us leading/controlling the narrative.
  • Team leadership, development, performance, inclusiveness and psychological safety.
  • Work closely with Public Affairs and Regional Security Managers to align threats and mitigation efforts.
  • Strengthen data sharing with local authorities in collaboration with Threat Intelligence team.
  • Deliver quarterly updates to Head of Global Security and explicit ELT members.

What you bring:

  • Prior law enforcement, legal, supply chain, Government or public affairs background preferred.
  • Knowledge of international logistics including marine terminals, vessels, and relevant authorities that regulate illicit cargo (desired).
  • Experience with managing and creating anti-crime and drug-trafficking programs (desired)
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills – Internal and external.
  • Strong leadership skills, especially inclusive leadership, psychological safety, mentoring, and performance management.
  • Trustworthy, structured, discreet, organised and culturally agile.
  • Experience with establishing and implementing a global risk mitigation program.
  • Business level English required.
