Job Description - Platform Engineer

Does running an ISP for IoT sound cool? What if we sprinkle in some telecommunication stuff running on K8s? Okay, that might still not be enough. What if the team also made an open-source version of the SIM running on software that we dubbed SoftSIM, which runs on a variety of modems so that users do not have to physically own a SIM card to connect to the network?

If you think any of this sounds remotely cool, stupid, or crazy, then you are the person Onomondo is looking for.

Who are you?

The profile that we are looking for with this particular posting is a Senior Platform Engineer to join our team. As a Platform Engineer, you will play a key role in building and maintaining our cloud-native platform, ensuring its scalability, availability, and security.

Key responsibilities

  • Helping to transform our Telecom infrastructure to cloud native
  • Automating deployment, monitoring, and scaling of our platform and services
  • Enabling individual teams to be autonomous while still following best practices
  • Continuously monitoring the platform and troubleshooting issues, as they arise
  • Maintaining and improving our CI/CD pipelines and release management processes
  • Participating in our compensated on-call rotations to ensure prompt response to system incidents and outages
  • Developing and maintaining documentation and best practices for the platform and our services
  • Influencing how we develop the future of our platform

Who are we?

Onomondo is a Copenhagen-based scale-up (series A, 21M EUR) that provides a cloud-native connectivity platform for the IoT industry. Our mission is to simplify and accelerate IoT adoption by providing businesses with the tools and services they need to connect and manage their IoT devices more securely and at scale.

  • 3+ years of experience as a Platform Engineer (or a similar role)
  • Experience with cloud providers, preferably AWS
  • Strong experience with infrastructure as code tools such as Terraform and Ansible
  • Experience in building and maintaining scalable, highly available, and secure cloud-native platforms/services
  • Proficiency in Node.js, Bash, and/or Go for scripting and automation
  • Experience with containerisation and orchestration technologies, such as Kubernetes
  • Strong understanding of CI/CD processes and tools, such as GitHub Actions or ArgoCD
  • Familiarity with monitoring and logging tools, such as Prometheus and Grafana
  • Knowledge of networking concepts and protocols
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills

Complementary skills

  • Relevant certifications, such as AWS Certified DevOps Engineer.
  • Previous experience in telecom concepts.
  • A strong Kubernetes tooling knowledge, for example Helm, creation of CRDS, etc.
  • Experience building Kubernetes Operators

Don’t meet every single requirement? Then ask yourself, “am I excited about this role?” if yes, then we encourage you to apply anyway. You may still be the right fit for this or other roles!

What's In It For You?

  • You get the space, trust and autonomy to create a meaningful career for yourself, but also to leave your mark on the team and culture.
  • You get a competitive salary, five weeks of vacation and great health care.
  • We want you to be part of our growth and success, so warrants are part of your package.
  • You can work from our 2000 sqm HQ in Islands Brygge but also flexible from home, if you need some focus time.
  • You get a fully catered lunch, a full snack bar and drinks, plus lots of love from our office manager.
  • You get some time to exercise during work hours to make sure that you stay physically and mentally healthy.
  • We have several office dogs, a Soundboks, shuffle boards, indoor Frisbee golf - and all the other goodies to become a cliché of a scale up.
  • And most importantly, we have a lovely bunch of colleagues who love to spend time together working but also having fun.

This is how the hiring process is structured

  1. Apply here with your CV and a cover letter
  2. Screening interview with your potential manager (15min)
  3. Technical interview with your potential manager and a staff engineer (45min)
  4. Meet the team in person (45min)
  5. Cultural interview with the full management team in person (1hour)
  6. Hired!

NOTE: We expect the right fit to be able to work in our HQ in Copenhagen. Therefore, a fully remote contract will not be an option for this post.
