We are looking for
Professor in Surface Chemistry with Focus on Studies of Biointerfaces .
Work duties
The candidate for the position is expected to pursue research contributing to a further long-term increase in the understanding of interfacial events in complex biological systems i.e. at biointerfaces. Focus will be primarily on studies and understanding of physicochemical and molecular phenomena at such interfaces which might benefit from use of novel cutting edge tools. The successful candidate will be required to further develop and manage an existing research environment aimed at studying surface chemical events in complex biological systems. In order to be successful in this, and as multidisciplinarity is a key word in the strategy of the university, interaction with the natural and medical/health sciences should be actively pursued through further continued collaboration with relevant departments at the faculties of Malmö University. Of particular importance will be to work in close collaboration/integration with the established multidisciplinary research center “Biofilms- Research Center for Biointerfaces”. Naturally, collaboration with leading experts and large scale infrastructures, nationally and internationally will also be important and necessary in order to maintain an international recognition. Furthermore, in view of the strategy of Malmö University, collaboration with the surrounding society, in this case primarily with industry, is crucial and therefore an appreciation of industrially relevant matters is essential. The duties also include teaching and supervision at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
Qualifications
A person who has demonstrated both research and teaching expertise corresponding to a level expected from a professor shall be qualified for employment as a professor.
A professor at Malmö University is expected to have international research experience, scientific work published in internationally highly valued journals and proven ability to obtain significant research funding. Furthermore, in view of the strategy of Malmö University, collaboration with the surrounding society, in this case primarily with industry, is crucial and therefore an appreciation of industrially relevant matters is essential.
A professor at Malmö University is expected to have university teacher training corresponding to at least 15 credits, or corresponding formal university teacher training, which is determined through validation. New staff members lacking this training must, within the scope of their appointment, commence such training within one year of assuming their position. A professor must have undergone university teacher training as well as a formalised teacher training, including supervision of doctoral students in accordance with the university's recommendations.
In addition to formal competence, University employees must possess the personal capacities necessary to perform the duties of the position well and to represent the University in the best possible way.

The assessment criteria for appointment as a professor shall be the degree of the expertise required as a qualification for employment. As much attention shall be given to the assessment of teaching expertise as to the assessment of research or artistic expertise (Chapter 4, Section 3 of the Higher Education Ordinance). As highlighted earlier, the position is expected to work in close collaboration/ integration with the established multidisciplinary research center “Biofilms- Research Center for Biointerfaces”( which combines biomedical science with clinical and translational research in pharmaceutical, medical, dental, food and environmental application areas in close collaboration with regional industry. This center is hosted at the Faculty of health and society at the Department of Biomedical Science.
The Faculty of health and society has programmes and courses in fields including nursing, biomedicine, pharmacy, criminology, sexology, disability and rehabilitation science, social work and police work. Most courses lead up to a professional exam, but there is also the option of further studies at master's level in most subjects. Both medical, health and social sciences research is conducted at the faculty, and there are a large number of research teams in biomedical science, pharmaceutical science, sexology, care sciences, social work and criminology. The Department of Biomedical Science at Faculty of health and society could serve as a hosting department for this position. The department offers programmes leading to a professional qualification as Prescriptionist and Biomedical laboratory scientist (both first cycle, 180 credits), and a Masters' programme, Biomedical Surface Science (second cycle, 120 credits), as well as first and second cycle freestanding courses. The Department negotiates the multifaceted intersection between biology, chemistry, pharmacy, medicine, physics, and technology and the interdisciplinary approach to research and education aims to further develop the theoretical and practical understanding of the complex subject matter. Drawing on the balance between basic and applied research, the Department has been successful in attracting funding from regional, national, and international research funding bodies. Our researchers constantly challenge boundaries between scientific specializations, between basic and applied research, and between academia and industry.
