Job Description - Protein Analysis Specialist (Associate Scientist)

Job Summary

As Protein Analysis Specialist (Associate Scientist) you will play a key role in supporting our R&D in Brabrand IFF by performing advanced protein characterization and analytical studies in the Protein team.

The Protein Team is part of a well-established department, Advanced Analysis, which partners with R&D colleagues from the global IFF organization to provide insights from using high- end instrumental equipment in the domains of separations, mass spectrometry, and spectroscopy. The hallmark of the department is a strong inter-team collaboration where the answers for moving on R&D projects come from the combined efforts of several instrumental platforms. The Protein Team delivers deep analytical capabilities in protein characterization, peptide analysis, proteomics, and dairy proteolysis studies. The role is based in Brabrand (onsite) where you will be part of a collaborative, sciencedriven and highly skilled team where together we achieve excellence and drive impactful innovation. Where You’ll Make a Difference 

  • Perform handson sample preparation using both manual workflows and automated liquidhandling robotics 
  •  Execute LC‑MS analyses across various protein centric workflows using Orbitrap or timsTOF platforms  
  • Contribute to primary structure characterization, proteomics studies, and dairy proteolysis analyses supporting R&D projects 
  • Process complex analytical data and prepare structured scientific reports for internal stakeholders
  • Interact effectively with internal stakeholders to support analytical requests and communicate results 
  • Receive targeted training to grow into delivering detailed protein characterization analysis
  • Help identify or develop new tools, methods, or improvements to optimize analytical workflows 
  • Balance approximately 60% wet lab (experiments, sample management, MS analyses) and 40% dry lab (data processing, interpretation, reporting) 

 

What Makes You the Right Fit 

You bring strong practical experience from a protein or biochemical laboratory environment, including: 

  • Handson biochemical analysis and protein analysis 
  • Experience with separation techniques 
  • Practical experience with mass spectrometry 
  • Ability to perform and troubleshoot lab workflows independently 
  • Foundational experience with data interpretation from protein characterization studies 

OR, ALTERNATIVELY 

You may bring a strong scientific foundation from an academic environment, including: 

  • Knowledge of protein analysis and characterization concepts 
  • Understanding of mass spectrometry principles and how MS data is generated 
  • Interest in growing practical skills in sample preparation, instrument operation, and data analysis 
  • Motivation to develop into an independent analyst through targeted training 

How You Would Stand Out 

  • Practical experience with both Orbitrap and timsTOF mass spectrometers 
  • Demonstrated ability to automate workflows or improve sample preparation processes 
  • Strong communication skills supporting early engagement with collaborators and high-quality reporting
  • Experience in identifying analytical bottlenecks and proposing method or workflow improvements
