Type of Appointment: Full-Time, Probationary Collective Bargaining Unit: CSUEU -Unit 5Job Classification: Lead CustodianClassification Salary Range: $3,347 - $5,498 per monthAnticipated Hiring Amount:$3,347 - $3,907 per monthWork Hours: Monday - Friday; 3:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.Recruitment Closing Date: May 8, 2023THE DEPARTMENTFacilities Planning and Management (FP&M) serves as the lead organization for planning, developing, and maintaining the campus' natural and built environments in support of the university's mission. The department seeks to preserve and enhance CPP's history, aesthetics, physical assets, and natural ecosystems through coordinated planning, design, and construction of buildings, roads, infrastructure, landscaping, and other physical improvements. As an advocate on behalf of the university and its auxiliaries, FPM strives to provide facilities that meet scope, budget, operational needs, and functional requirements. FPM is comprised of approximately 200 facilities professionals (FTE) that also provides maintenance services including custodial services, landscaping, recycling, building and mechanical trades, energy and utility management, fleet, and auto services. The workforce is culturally diverse and multilingual. Its composition includes full time staff throughout FPM who are also earning their degrees and many whom have graduated from Cal Poly Pomona. The staff includes licensed architects and engineers, accountants, planners, project managers, administrative staff, carpenters, plumbers, locksmiths, painters, electricians, landscape architects, computer technicians, custodians and other building and mechanical trade technicians.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESFunctionally assist, support, and lead the work of custodians performing routine maintenance and project tasks, including floor careAssist in hiring, coaching, and trainingAssist in evaluating work performance; perform scheduling, planning, and ordering on a daily basisCoordinate with other department units or other departments, on an as-needed basisMaintain accurate records of performance levels, security issues, supplies, training, chemicals, equipment, safety, health concerns, attendance, and other related areasPerform inspectionsAllocate resources; prepare reports and other documents; monitor productivityAdjust work to changing priorities or special circumstancesEffectively communicate with customers regarding service levels and special needsRecommend and/or select cleaning products and equipment to be used, and report problems to the manager or to the department as appropriate.Perform the work of a custodian, including floor care as required. As a working lead you are required to substitute and perform the work of a custodian as needed.Other related duties, as assignedQUALIFICATIONSHigh school diploma or equivalentValid California Driver's license and proof of insuranceEquivalent to one to two years of related custodial experience and providing on-the-job training and leadership to others.Working knowledge of the methods, chemicals, and equipment used in custodial work and of the safety and sanitation practices and measures; and effective lead/supervisory practices and techniques. Ability to provide lead work direction, including training others in proper work methods and safety and providing feedback on work performance; read and write English at a level appropriate to the duties of the position; use computers to track work orders and order supplies and materials; establish, promote and maintain cooperative work relationships with others; and analyze situations and take appropriate action.Preferred QualificationsKnowledge in the use of window-based computer systems, email, Microsoft based software, fax machinesMust be able understand workload priorities and assigning or delegate effectivelyAbility to perform all the routine and non-routine tasks of a custodianAdjust to changes in priorities.Have at least three to five years of prior lead or supervisory custodial experience, preferable in a university or college environment.COVID-19 VaccinationCSU requires faculty, staff, and students who physically access campus facilities or programs to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, which includes obtaining a COVID-19 booster dose, or declare a medical or religious exemption from doing so.
