Employee Testimonials

Roosa (Office Trainee) says:

The best thing about working at Dottir is the possibility to challenge yourself. Each day you learn something new about yourself, your colleagues, and the day-to-day life of a tech law firm.

Working as an Office Trainee means you are given quite a free rein to complete daily tasks you are assigned. You are more than just a robot delivering documents or brewing coffee (despite doing that as well). The job is always defined by the person doing it – if something doesn’t work, you have a real opportunity to fix it. Sometimes being creative and innovative in the legal profession isn’t such a bad quality. At Dottir it is in fact encouraged.

During my traineeship, I learned that people work best with people, not with titles or status. I gained valuable advice and learned massively since I was able to talk to anyone about any subject of my interest. As an Office Trainee at Dottir, you truly are an equal member of the work community and that’s what motivated me to put my best foot forward. I gained an understanding of what it means to work at an agile law firm, as well as a ton of new skills and knowledge in different practice areas. But most importantly, I got to know people I now call not only my colleagues but my friends.

As an Office Trainee at Dottir you are given the possibility to challenge yourself as much as you dare, and the bravest will thrive.

Viktor (Associate, former Legal Trainee) says:

I can honestly say that my internship at Dottir was the best I have ever experienced. When I started as a Legal Trainee, I noticed that Dottir is a bit like Willy Wonka's chocolate factory: a little crazy and wild, but full of cool oompa loompas (colleagues) and chocolate (assignments). Joking aside - the reason why I enjoyed being an intern (and why I currently enjoy being a lawyer) at Dottir, is the fact that you can be completely yourself here. We have a very relaxed and open-minded work culture. I'm not saying that the work itself doesn't matter, of course it does. However, we understand that life does not only consist of invoicing, but also other things.

In addition to the work culture, at Dottir, you are given a lot of responsibility. Already as an intern, you get to do things that you probably wouldn't have the possibility to do elsewhere. Again, I'm not saying this is for everyone. However, I can say that my skills increased faster during the Dottir internship than anywhere else - I really got something out of my internship period. I'm happy that I was offered the opportunity to start as an intern at Dottir and I'm even happier that I get to continue working here as a lawyer.

I have been with Dottir since February 2022. I was particularly drawn to Dottir’s fresh presence, its focus areas of law, as well as the promise of the firm’s informal working culture and atmosphere. Safe to say, I was extremely happy when our discussions led to an agreement, and I started to work as a full-time member of team Dottir.

Without a doubt, Dottir’s best part is its fun, eager and extremely talented team of experts, who all see working life similarly, and who don’t think that expertise or professionality require certain types of appearances or facilities. In my view, Dottir’s open conversation culture is one of its biggest strengths, and honesty and straightforwardness can really be recognized as core values of the firm.

Furthermore, we all share the same views (our firm in general, but particularly the Dispute Resolution team) on the role of and future trends in dispute resolution - e.g. that dispute resolution should be seen as a part of everyday business operations, rather than only a necessary evil, once matters have already escalated beyond a settlement point. In addition, the benefits relating to for example mediation and other alternative dispute resolution methods are recognised by the entire DR team. Therefore, Dottir really seems like a great match for me.

I worked as a Legal Trainee at Dottir for a period of four months. In my view, in order to get the most out of the traineeship, it’s worth having some prior legal experience and being in the later stages of your studies, before jumping on board Dottir as a trainee.

At Dottir, trainees are not assigned a particular practice area, but rather assist all practices on a need-to basis. I find this fruitful, as from a learning viewpoint it’s practical for budding young lawyers to be able to work with a variety of different tasks and assignments within different fields of the law. Trainees are however also given the liberty to work with assignments or practice groups which they are particularly interested in or in which they might wish to specialise later during their career.

Independence and responsibility were both qualities that were emphasised during the interview and at the beginning of the traineeship. However, in exchange I always received support and encouragement for more challenging tasks. I always got feedback quickly, and my colleagues made sure that the tasks that were assigned to me supported my development and learning as a young lawyer.

I also feel that I integrated into our work community relatively quickly due to my colleagues’ genuineness and authenticity. As a trainee, I was always viewed as a young professional and as my own character, rather than just a visiting resource tasked to perform simple manual assignments.

I started with Dottir at the beginning of 2021 when the firm had started to develop its dispute resolution practice. I have never experienced a similar work community and atmosphere within the legal profession - Dottir's team is one of a kind. Our working culture is very relaxed and honest, and we share similar values.

As a Senior Associate you will be given a great amount of responsibility and freedom which, in my opinion, is one of the biggest perks of the position. For example, as a dispute resolution lawyer, you will get the chance to lead your own cases. I highly recommend Dottir to anyone wanting to experience a fresh approach to lawyering.

Aino (Operations Manager, former Office & Project Coordinator) says:

I applied for my current job when my studies ended in the spring of 2019, and I've had a great time here since then. I’ve been given the opportunity to build my own role as well as to learn and grow as an employee along the way.

I've enjoyed the atmosphere of responsibility and freedom, not forgetting all the fun I’ve had with my colleagues. I can see my role evolving in the future along with the growth and development of the firm itself, and that’s exciting.

Pyry (Associate, former Legal Trainee) says:

Dottir's Legal Trainees are given an exceptional amount ofresponsibility and freedom, which turns out to be a great opportunity topractice tasks that in many other internships would have been assignedto more experienced colleagues.

With a brave and open-minded attitude, you can learn a lot about law, which in part makes it easier to enterworking life after graduation. However, you should not be afraid ofchallenges, because at Dottir you can always get help from nicecolleagues, regardless of their position or practice area.

My traineeship at Dottir was a unique experience in the best possible way. Everyone makes an effort to get the trainees on board from the start, which immediately creates the sense of an open and approachable working environment and atmosphere.

The spirit of Dottir is created by a great line-up of colleagues. You can exchange views or catch up with anyone regardless of their seniority level, and such interaction is also strongly encouraged. The culture of working together is not present only at team-level, but at office-level in general. It truly feels like everyone is working for the good of Dottir and its people.

As a Legal Trainee, you get to assist Dottir’s lawyers in a wide range of assignments, but personal preferences are taken into account wherever possible. Lawyers try to involve Legal Trainees in assignments on issues they are interested in, however, trainees do help with assignments coming from all of the firm’s practice groups. In practice this means that the traineeship provides valuable and comprehensive experience e.g. in the field of corporate law, as it is one of the firm's core practice groups. However, I find that working with versatile assignments is essential in order to identify one's own interests and possible areas of specialization. It's also noteworthy that although there is room to work independently, help is always close at hand.

At Dottir, initiative and being brave are encouraged. Mistakes are seen as opportunities to learn and to grow, rather than something that should be hidden and avoided to the hilt. If you dare and are willing to challenge yourself, I cannot recommend a better place for a traineeship than Dottir!

The internships are not identical by nature and each trainee’s personal interests are taken into consideration. Send us an email and let us know, what would be your personal goals for your internship.
