Epassi is a leading provider of employee benefit payments solutions in Finland,Sweden, UK & Ireland, Italy, Germany and the Netherlands. Epassi employs close to 500 professionals. Epassi was established in Finland in 2007, and in 2008, the company was the first market player to launch a mobile-payable employee benefit payment solution in Europe. Epassi has grown its topline more than tenfold in last 5 years. Epassi stands out from other companies by its consistently strong growth combined with high profitability.

Currently , Epassi runs a proprietary, self-reinforcing payments network serving ~21,000 employers, ~78,000 merchants and ~16 million users. Backed up by TA Associates and Warburg Pincus – leading global private equity investors with a proven track-record in growth investing – Epassi’s team is ready to unlock the next level of the company’s growth journey!

As Epassi’s Chief Legal Officer , your key focus will be to ensure that Epassi’s legal operations remain one step ahead in supporting the company’s growth strategy. In addition to the day-to-day operative legal advice on topics such as technology agreements, GDPR, governance, anti-money laundering, and Board/shareholder communications, you will develop and implement structured, scalable and business-oriented processes and ways of working in close co-operation with the business and Epassi’s customers.

This is a role that will challenge you to work both in a hands-on pragmatic legal topics and strategic legal function development. In a rapidly growing company, you will need to find the right balance between both, equally important aspects.

You will report to Epassi’s CFO and join the company’s management team, thus working closely with the company’s CEO, top management, the Board and the owners. You will be backed up by a legal team. Due to Epassi’s active acquisition pipeline, it would not be a huge surprise to have also new legal team members joining in new market areas in the future.

You could be the one we are looking for, if you tick the following boxes:

You are an experienced in-house legal expert – you have a strong and versatile expertise in governance, technology contracts and GDPR, combined with a proven track-record in creating and implementing scalable and structured legal processes. From a regulatory perspective, Epassi is a payment institution and thus supervised by the Finnish Financial Supervisory Authority, so prior exposure to financial regulation is an advantage (but not an absolute requirement).

You are growth-oriented - our ideal candidate is somebody who brings their A-game to contribute towards hitting the company’s growth targets! We expect you to have plenty of emotional intelligence, a can do -attitude, a strategic vision and rock-solid prioritization skills.

You are business-oriented – a strong business acumen and the capability to work seamlessly alongside Epassi’s business functions and customers is an absolute necessity in this role. You are thus wired to ensure that the legal advice given by you and your legal team members is commercially savvy: you add value by using your legal skills to boost the business and to satisfy customer expectations.

You are fluent in English – Finnish and other language skills are a plus. Prior experience from Board and investor communication is an asset, as well as legal capabilities in M&A (particularly post-closing integrations) and finance. Prior experience from managing a legal team is also appreciated.
