Development Manager, Surface Treatment

We at Horton International are looking for a Development Manager, Surface treatment for Nordec Oy . Nordec is a leading provider of frame structures for buildings, facades and steel bridges in the Nordic region. Company’s history spans more than 80 years of designing, manufacturing and installing frame structures for the most demanding projects. In 2022, Nordec revenues grew to over 300 million euros and the growth of the business has continued in 2023. Nordec’s business is supported by its strong position with customers focusing on sustainable investments including e.g. green energy and green steel infrastructure.

Development Manager is responsible for the development and product management of Nordec’s surface treatment offering. He/she works closely with the production units, procurement and sub-contractors to define best possible paint treatment and production processes to ensure high quality and efficiency in production. Development manager works also closely with sales to define winning surface treatment options in the tendering phase of key projects. Home base of the role is flexible. The role requires regular travelling to the Nordec production sites both in Finland and abroad, estimated at around 50 days annually.

Required skills & experience

Development Manager is a senior expert position which requires an ambitious and systematic person with 10 years’ experience in surface treatment related business in manufacturing and/or in paint industry. He/she is an expert in paint chemicals, technologies, applications and processes in an industrial context. Development Manager role requires knowledge and interest towards both production and sales related topics to ensure that Nordec’s paint offering is competitive both in terms of material performance and cost efficiency. Previous experience in paint shop environment or knowledge of paint related production processes is appreciated.

Development Manager is an analytical and structured “hands-on” type of doer that can define processes and manage strategic initiatives while addressing numerous ad-hoc topics and issues that will arise on the way. Role requires a proactive individual, with excellent communication and collaboration skills with different internal and external stakeholders and partners. Prior experience in production and/or product manager roles is appreciated. He/she has a M.Sc. or B.Sc. level degree in engineering or equivalent. Full fluency in spoken and written Finnish and English are a must.
