Job Description - DevOps Lead, UPM-Kymmene Oyj

We are now looking for a Development and Operations Lead to join our Digi and Data Management Office team in Helsinki

In this position you will own the deployment and maintenance of major infrastructure systems and tooling that power DDMO’s ecosystem and allow for data and application development and deployment. You will work cross-functionally with various groups within UPM, including Application Developers, Data Engineers, Data Scientists, Security, Legal, etc. to gather stakeholder requirements and prioritize work.

What you will do

  • Provide overall DevOps guidance for all technology areas within DDMO
  • Work cross-functionally with various groups within UPM, including Application Developers, Data Engineers, Data Scientists, Security, Legal, etc. to gather stakeholder requirements and prioritize work.
  • Manage a team of 5-10 infrastructure internal and contracting DevOps engineers and help them manage technical hurdles, prioritize work, and provide mentorship.
  • Create and maintain DevOps roadmap and project plans that provide visibility into the team’s work and share these artifacts with different teams and functions
  • Drive efficiencies at UPM’s DDMO ecosystem via monitoring, alerting, and implementation of cost-saving mechanisms

Who you Are

  • You have 7+ years of experience as a software engineer, particularly in DevOps and/or infrastructure engineering
  • You have 3+ years of experience in managing a team with demonstrated ability to guide and mentor others
  • You are a motivated leader with experience owning infrastructure projects end-to-end and a desire to work in a fast-paced, iterative, and collaborative environment.
  • You have a track record of solving problems end-to-end with little-to-no oversight.
  • You have proficiency in automation, creating reusable patterns and solutions.
  • you have strong experience utilizing Infrastructure as Code (IaC) principles (e.g. using Terraform)
  • you have strong experience containerized infrastructure (e.g. AKS and docker) and using Azure cloud technologies (ActiveDirectory, App Services)
  • You have strong experience managing VMs and applications hosted on VMs
  • you have experience architecting, configuring, and deploying CI/CD pipelines following best practices using tools such as Github Actions, Gitlab, Azure Devops Pipeline.
  • You have knowledge of best practices for monitoring and alerting on cloud-based microservices. Experience with management relational databases and data warehouses.
  • You have expertise in cybersecurity best practices and demonstrated knowledge of cloud security solutions including networking, identity and access management (e.g. Azure AD, Salesforce IdP).
  • You are an excellent communicator with the ability to work collaboratively and cohesively in a cross-functional team.
  • You have excellent troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills, calm under pressure, and highly communicative during incidents.

Extra Credit

  • Experience working with remote teams.
  • Experience with data-intensive applications, big data pipelines and analytics, having used tools such as Airflow, OracleDW, Snowflake.
  • Interest in the forest industry.
