Director, R&D (Embedded SW)

We are looking for  a Director, R&D  to lead the software development teams, software delivery, and technology vision for the Embedded area of Qt R&D. The position is located in Oulu, Finland . 

You are responsible for developing Qt Group's framework offering on embedded device platforms: Qt for embedded Linux and real-time operating systems on MPU hardware platforms, Qt for MCUs, as well as functional safety-certified components.

The Qt framework and related tools are market-leading products, that have a wide global customer base. This is a great opportunity to be part of building the future of the embedded systems. 

You work in close collaboration with others in Qt R&D, product management, and other functions of the Qt Group. You lead a talented, multi-cultural teams, with a strong presence in Oulu and colleagues around the world in multiple locations. Together, we ensure the creation of future innovations as well as software development and validation according to product roadmaps and our high-quality standards. You are a people leader with the ability to set the direction of technology vision and strategy.

Your work at Qt  

• Leading and managing a part of Qt R&D with a team of R&D managers. 
• Coaching and motivating the teams, setting direction, and providing guidance. Recognizing and encouraging talent. 
• Participating in recruiting. Managing the R&D budget of the Embedded area. 
• Overseeing and directing the targets and output of the R&D organization. 
• Technical leadership together with the senior engineers and R&D team leads. 
• Collaborating and aligning activities with Product Management, Sales, Consulting, People & Culture, and the rest of R&D. 
• Developing and improving common ways of working, processes, and tools. 

Qualifications  

• Strong technical background with the ability to be hands-on with software development topics.
• Minimum of 10 years of experience in software development of which +5 years in a leadership role. 
• Understanding of software testing tools and processes; understanding of testing embedded devices and testing in regulated industries is a plus. 
• Skills and experience of C++, preferably also on Qt development with C++ and QML.
• Proven capability to build complex software offerings.
• Business acumen; capability to think strategically and recognize market trends and customer needs and feedback.
• Good people leadership and line management experience.
