THE ROLE

We are in search of Product Designers with a background in digital service creation into Kempower’s Research, Innovation, and Concepts unit. You will be joining our small yet growing design team and claim ownership of a particular product area, with support from your peers and the wider community.

As a Product Designer in Kempower, your work will be dynamic and adapt to align with your interests and expertise, while also reflecting the evolving demands of our fast-paced growth company. In your work here, you might find yourself doing research about the needs of different user and customer groups, turning those insights into feature concepts for our SAAS products, designing interfaces for our next-generation touch-screen-based products, facilitating workshops to establish common ground around a product’s direction, or be contributing to our Design System. At Kempower, things move fast. It is likely that your role will also evolve as the electric mobility revolution keeps on picking up pace.

WHAT HELPS YOU SUCCEED IN THIS ROLE

• Mid to senior level experience in digital product design or service design.
• 3 and up to 10+ years of experience, some of which ideally from technologically or architecturally complex domains
• A mix of skills, potentially covering strategic design, user and market research, synthetization of research findings into service blueprints or feature designs, interaction and UI design, visual communication design, and copywriting. We do not expect everything from one individual but do appreciate people with a generalist mindset and growth attitude. You have at least one superpower that you can amaze us with.
• Professionalism and experience in working as a member of a design organization.
• You like to give and receive critique, work with and contribute to a design system, and develop and respect agreed team practices.
• You can work in a multidisciplinary environment with product managers, industrial designers, hardware and software engineers, marketing, sales, and operations.
• You master the tools of the trade. For UI design, we use Figma, work in branches, and like to have peer-review workflows. Experience with other research, analytics, design, prototyping, or animation tools is appreciated: as a research repository tool, we use Condens, and for online whiteboarding, we use Miro.
• Experience in working with developers to ensure a smooth product development process and making sure that what we ship meets our quality standards.
• Some web frontend development understanding is appreciated, but not a hard requirement.
• Skills in presenting design decisions to team members and stakeholders.
• A willingness to iterate and improve work based on feedback and new insights.

As our official company language is English, we are looking for a candidate with good communication (spoken and written) skills in English. Other language skills are considered a plus – we have customers and users all over the world.

The preferred location for the role is either our office location in Tampere or Helsinki. The team gathers approximately two days a week in the Tampere, Helsinki or Lahti office, otherwise the working location is hybrid. The role requires some traveling, mainly in Finland.
