Profile Employee Login The University of Helsinki International trainee programme is open to all international students enrolled in a University of Helsinki master’s programme. We are now looking for a TRAINEE for FIN-CLARIAH project. The duration of a traineeship is from 1 September to 31 December 2024 (four months) of part-time (50%) work, leaving time for studies as well. The salary of a trainee is €700 per month for a part-time (50%) trainee. About the position We develop tools to help other researchers to get data. A major challenge currently is the lack of maintained collection tools unique to the Finnish media environment to search for and systematically capture data for social science research. Tasks for this traineeship include   o    Writing code to scraping content from Finnish online forums (no Finnish skills required) o    Wrangling the data into a format compatible with social science research o    Develping automated testing tools for code to indicate when its is broken   In this task you can use either R or Python to develop scrapers, so good command of either language is required. This position is located in the Helsinki Social Computing Group , an interdisciplinary research group focused on developing computational and digital methods for social science and examining the impact of algorithms and digital systems to societal live. In addition, the student will belong to the Centre for Social Data Science at the Faculty of Social Science. The person we are looking for We seek for a motivated junior person to participate in this development effort, a keen interest in social science research and wish to develop it further is a must. Similarly, we hope expect skills for working independently. We are particularly looking for candidates with     o    Basic level knowledge of Python and/or R (including operations of libraries).
o    Basic level knowledge of website publishing technologies (HTML, Javascript).
o    Willingness to receive feedback through regular code reviews.
o    Good command of English language (no need to master Finnish language) In your application material, please also explain your experience in Python or R, software development and website publishing technologies.
