Job Description - Board Member ( roles)

IWWOF is a community of professionally-active women from around the world living in Finland. Our core mission is to empower and support each other through our shared work experiences and ambitions. We want to make everyone feel included and facilitate their integration in Finland. We have grown of 10000+ members on our Facebook group and it continues to grow fast. Join us today and let's make Finland a more inclusive country. We are a fully volunteer-driven non-profit Association with an operational Board and this structure is key for the preservation of our integrity. Usually, each of our Board Members has a separate role they are responsible for (in addition to the regular support of the Association's governance). Currently, we are looking for two new Board Members, for two different roles:

  • Project Coordination and Fundraising
  • Marketing and Community

WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR:

  • We are looking for an Internationally-minded individual to join the Board and do great things together!
  • We don’t care where you are from: you may be a Finn or someone coming from abroad, as long as you don’t believe in borders and see yourself as the citizen of the world (with a Finnish twist, of course).
  • You may be a woman or gender non-binary individual since we would love the Board to represent our community.
  • We want someone with a “hold my beer” (a glass of wine / smoothie / cup of coffee/tea) attitude.
  • We want doers and not just planners.
  • We are looking for someone who would love to write their own narrative.

WHAT AN IDEAL CANDIDATE MAY LOOK LIKE?

You are a perfect fit if along with your motivation you are/were:
  • Living in Finland and preferably are/were professionally active here
  • Having a strategic set of mind and able to see the big picture (if you held managerial positions before or were/are an entrepreneur - that would be definitely a plus)
  • Having experience with another Board or having worked with Boards could be seen as a plus (not a requirement though)
  • Fluent in English
ADDITIONAL 'REQUIREMENTS' FOR EACH OF THE ROLES ARE: Project Coordination and Fundraising:
  • Have a project management or project coordination experience
  • Worked with finding applications before and have some successful cases
  • Worked with budgets before and have at least basic understanding of Finance
  • Finnish proficiency is a plus (since you will be working with funding applications)
Marketing and Community
  • Worked in marketing before and have some results
  • Know how to manage social media
  • Were a team lead before or had managerial experience (a plus, but not a requirement)
  • Experience in event management is a plus
Of course, this is how we see an ideal candidate, but this is not set in stone. If you are early in your career, but you have lots of drive, energy and knowledge that you would like to channel in the right direction - do apply anyway. It’s the motivation and dedication that matters the most for us!

WHAT WILL BE EXPECTED OF YOU?

We all decide how much time we spend with IWWOF, everything depends on your own ambition and availability. In general, we recommend 3-4 hours a week allocated for IWWOF activities. Apart from participating in the Board Meetings (once a month) and shaping the future of the organization, we would like these Board Members to take on some tasks related to the roles specifically, such as: Project Coordination and Fundraising:
  • Scouting for new funding calls,
  • Creating project plans and funding applications, together with the Chair of IWWOF,
  • Applying for funding, together with the Chair of IWWOF
  • Coordinating the delivery of the projects, coordinating the work of volunteers and hired personnel / subcontractors
Marketing and Community:
  • Planning our marketing and social media activities
  • Posting and promoting things through our communication channels
  • Moderating the team of our chapter leaders, Facebook group moderators, and volunteers
  • Coordinating the organisation of our monthly events
