We are now looking for an innovative, inspiring and result-oriented  R&D Manager, Water Treatment  for Kemira R&D and Technology function.

Kemira R&D and Technology is a critical enabler within Kemira, securing organic growth and further differentiation in the market through co-creation and innovation with our customers. The position is temporary (2.9.2024 – 30.9.2025) and is based at our R&D Center in Espoo, Finland.

You will work as a leader for a team of experts working in multiple areas of water treatment. This team is developing new water treatment chemicals and solutions for drinking water, raw water, waste water and sludge treatment both for municipal and industrial customers (specifically in Pulp & Paper and Mining customer segments). As a team manager you will set clear targets, follow and evaluate performance, improve safety culture, mentor and coach project managers and project scientists and take overall responsibility of specific laboratories in your responsible area. You are responsible for developing competences of your team members, scouting new technologies, exploring customer needs and proposing new project ideas in your area of competence.

What you’ll bring to the team:

  • Strong commitment and drive to continuously improve safety culture in our day-to-day operations
  • You are expected to have MSc/PhD in the area of chemical engineering, process engineering, chemistry or other relevant field of technology
  • You have several years of industrial experience in developing chemicals or applications for water-intensive areas or experience of municipal water treatment sector. Knowledge of water treatment technologies, digital solutions in water treatment and/or inorganic chemistry is an advantage
  • Experience in coordinating laboratory work tasks, setting targets, and driving performance and competency development within a team is seen as a benefit
  • Experience in project management is seen as a benefit
  • Ability to thrive in a multicultural environment, creating networks and helping the team to deliver success with our customers
  • You are fluent in both written and spoken English, knowledge of Finnish is considered a strong advantage
