Senior Biosensing Engineer

Huawei Helsinki Sports Science Laboratory is seeking a Senior Biosensing Engineer to join us in a technology project aimed at developing innovative commercial biosensing solutions. The primary responsibility of this role is to explore and analyze new opportunities for commercial wearable devices that can enhance people’s daily lives in terms of health and sports. You will collaborate with a team of experts from various domains.

Main Responsibilities:

• Explore and evaluate emerging technologies: Investigate cutting-edge technologies and assess their feasibility within Huawei’s product lines. Lead and coordinate research projects aimed at strengthening Huawei’s leadership in the wearable and health technology sectors, ensuring the company remains at the forefront of innovation.


• Plan and conduct data collection for biosensing experiments.


• Design and implement algorithms for measuring biomarkers using non-invasive optical sensors.


• Process and analyze biosensor data using machine learning and mathematical models based on light-tissue interaction and light propagation in the skin.


• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate biosensing capabilities into consumer wearable devices.

Requirements:

• Creative and innovative thinker: Demonstrated ability to develop novel ideas and solutions, pushing beyond conventional approaches to create cutting-edge technologies. A passion for innovation and an eagerness in exploring new opportunities in the wearable and health tech sectors.


• PhD in Biophotonics, Biomedical Engineering or closely related fields.


• Proficiency in biosignal data processing and data collection with human subjects, as well as experience in data analysis, visualization and reporting.


• Deep knowledge of human physiology and its relation to biomarker detection using optical sensors (e.g. lactate, hydration status, metabolic rate)


• Strong understanding of optical biosensor techniques, including Photoplethysmography (PPG) and Near Infrared Spectroscopy (NIRS), as well as familiarity with bio-optical modeling approaches for these methods


• Ability to independently work on projects, design and execute data collection, analyze data and present findings in a scientific manner


• Demonstrated ability to work systematically and deliver comprehensive reports within specified timelines


• Technically oriented can-do attitude and ability to work in fast paced working environment.


• Strong team working skills and a positive mindset.


• Fluent in English (required): Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly and effectively in English, both in writing and verbally.

Contract period and starting date: This is a full-time consultant position; the consultant shall be employed by Huawei's supplier. We expect you to start as soon as possible and job will be filled as soon as suitable candidate has found.
