We are now seeking a
Senior Computational Engineer
With strong multiscale physics, simulation, and coding capabilities to accelerate our CNT growth modelling and reactor development efforts through systematic engineering approaches. This role combines hands-on computational work, fast prototyping of simulation concepts, and project level coordination with internal teams and external simulation partners.
This position is ideal for someone who enjoys getting things done, enjoys building fast experimentally verifiable computational tools, and bridging modelling with real hardware and reactor data.
Responsibilities:
Develop computational models across multiple scales, covering methods such as molecular modeling (MD/ab initio), reaction kinetics, and continuum‑level simulations (FEM/CFD/particle tracing)
Build and refine simulation workflows to describe CNT nucleation, growth, orientation, and reactor‑level transport phenomena
Implement custom simulation codes in Python, Fortran, Matlab or similar
Utilize high‑performance computing technologies to accelerate simulations and minimize computational runtimes
Analyze simulation results, summarize insights, and propose actionable improvements for reactor design and process optimization
Participate in full scope of development project actions: planning, risk assessment, response to issues, execution and reporting
Collaborate with internal R&D teams (Synthesis, Chemistry, Analytics, Design) to align simulations with experimental validation and process development needs
Coordinate with external simulation partners and service providers, ensuring alignment, quality, and timely delivery
Document results and maintain simulation of assets in a structured, reusable, and scalable way
Qualifications:
Must‑have:
PhD (or equivalent expertise) in Computational Physics, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or a related field
Strong hands‑on experience in computational modeling: molecular dynamics, ab initio/DFT, reaction kinetics, continuum modeling (FEM/CFD), or multiscale frameworks
Proven coding skills in Python, Fortran, Matlab, C/C++, or similar scientific computing languages
Ability to move fast: agile development of workable prototypes that can be cross-validated experimentally in iterative fashion
Strong communication skills for internal and external technical collaboration
Analytical mindset, ownership attitude, and demonstrated drive to deliver tangible results
Ability to manage complex simulation projects, coordinate with cross‑functional teams, and translate modeling insights into actionable engineering recommendations
Experience in overseeing outsourced engineering projects, providing technical direction and maintaining consistency with internal development plans
Fluent in English
Nice-to-have
Experience with COMSOL Multiphysics, Star‑CCM+, or similar multiphysics environments
Familiarity with GPU programming or accelerated numerical methods
Exposure to chemical kinetics, nucleation theory, or reactor modeling
You will become part of a multidisciplinary R&D organization working at the forefront of CNT technology and semiconductor innovation. You will work closely with experts across synthesis, reactor development, analytics, and metrology — in an environment that values scientific excellence and rapid engineering execution.
As an entrepreneurial company, you will be a part of a dynamic and forward-looking scale-up with great team spirit and peer support. At Canatu, the following core values define who we are and who we want to be, guiding us in our day-to-day work:
Curiosity to discover provides us with the spark that takes us out into the world to observe and find.
Commitment to achieve is how we take those discoveries from ideas to something concrete.
Collaboration for impact is required to develop what we create into impactful and meaningful products.
Passion for progress keeps us working for new ways to do things for better tomorrows.
Does this resonate? It’s what defines us. Join us to do work with an impact.
