Senior Data Engineer

Job role and purpose:

As a Senior Data Engineer, you will play a key role in designing, implementing, and maintaining our data platform, ETL processes, and data warehouse environment. This is a trusted and highly valued position within our organization, providing an opportunity to shape our data capabilities and strategies while mentoring team members and collaborating closely with business intelligence developers, analysts, and both IT and business managers. This role requires a deep understanding of both technical and business aspects of data to ensure that our data strategies align with organizational goals.

Responsibilities and tasks:

• Architecture Design and Development: Design and implement robust, scalable, and secure data platforms that support large-scale data processing and analytics. Develop and implement strategies for data acquisition, storage, processing, and access.

• Data Modelling and Integration: Develop data models that effectively capture the critical data of the organization. Ensure seamless integration of various data sources into the platform while maintaining data integrity and consistency.

• Platform Management and Optimization: Monitor the performance of the data platform, identify bottlenecks, and implement optimizations. Ensure the platform is scalable to accommodate growth in data volume and complexity.

• Data Governance and Compliance: Establish and enforce data governance policies to ensure data security, privacy, and compliance with relevant regulations. Implement data quality measures to maintain the accuracy and reliability of data. Ensure master data management capabilities and processes are in place.

• Collaboration and Leadership: Work closely with data scientists, analysts, and business stakeholders to understand their data needs and provide strategic guidance. Lead cross-functional teams in the implementation of data projects.

• Innovation and Research: Stay abreast of the latest developments in data architecture, big data technologies, and cloud services. Evaluate and recommend new tools and technologies to enhance the capabilities of the data platform.

• Documentation and Training: Document the data platform architecture and related processes. Provide training and guidance to team members and stakeholders on leveraging the data platform effectively.

Qualifications and experience:

· Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer science, Information Management, Data Science or related field

· 5+ years of proven experience in Data Developer, Data Architect, Data Engineer, BI Engineer or a similar role in data platform development

· Full working proficiency in English

· Strong knowledge of different data platform technologies (e.g. Snowflake, DBT, Databricks or similar)

· Expertise in relational databases, data lakes, and ETL tools is crucial

· Strong skills in SQL and proficiency in programming languages (e.g. Python)

· Familiarity with cloud platforms (especially Azure) and understanding of cloud-based data platform solutions

· Understanding data modeling principles and designing efficient data architectures

· Knowledge of data governance, data security, and compliance requirements

· Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills

· Proven track record in successfully building, developing and managing data platforms and data pipelines

· Analytical and problem-solving abilities

· Excellent collaboration and communication skills, ability to communicate across different organizational function
