Are you interested in developing amazing camera products? We’re looking for a Senior Imaging Software Engineer to join our innovative team to architect, develop, and lead Camera Hardware Abstraction Layer (HAL) solutions across our exciting range of camera products (body cameras, dash cameras, drones, and more). You’ll own camera drivers, interface closely with other Axon teams, and integrate custom image-processing components within the Qualcomm camera stack. If you thrive at the intersection of hardware and software, possess deep embedded systems expertise, and excel at collaborating across diverse teams, we’d love to hear from you.

Location: Onsite. Tampere, Finland.
Reports to: Senior Director of Imaging Software

What You’ll Do



  • Own and drive development of Camera HAL components, including Qualcomm Camera HAL customization, sensor integration, and middleware integration.

  • Act as the key technical interface between imaging software and firmware teams, clearly communicating requirements, dependencies, and integration approaches.

  • Lead hands-on debugging, prototyping, and system-level troubleshooting, providing creative solutions to complex embedded camera problems.

  • Architect solutions for integrating custom image processing pipelines within Qualcomm’s camera architecture, ensuring robustness and performance.

  • Provide technical leadership through code and architecture design reviews, mentoring junior engineers, and setting high engineering standards.

  • Maintain a strong focus on performance and stability requirements essential to modern camera systems.



What You Bring



  • 10+ years professional experience in embedded software engineering, primarily using C/C++.

  • Solid experience in Linux kernel, driver development, and low-level software debugging.

  • Proven track record with Qualcomm chipsets, including modifying and extending Qualcomm Camera HAL and middleware.

  • Demonstrated capability in integrating custom image processing algorithms within camera pipelines.

  • Practical knowledge of Linux embedded distribution methodologies, preferring experience with Yocto build system.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with proven ability to effectively coordinate requirements, priorities, and influencing decisions to drive alignment across geographically distributed teams.

  • Familiarity with additional systems languages (Rust, Go) and scripting (Python) is beneficial but not mandatory.

  • Exposure to camera ISP tuning, computer vision, or ML-based imaging solutions is beneficial.

  • Also experience with hardware simulation and test automation for camera systems are beneficial.
