Senior Product Manager, XR Headsets

About Varjo: Varjo is at the forefront of virtual and mixed reality, developing revolutionary hardware and software that enable professionals to train, work and create in immersive realities. We are seeking an experienced and technically fluent Senior Product Manager to lead the hardware product strategy for our next generation of Varjo headsets.

The Role: As a Senior Product Manager, you will be instrumental in defining the future of our Virtual and Mixed Reality headsets, with a specific focus on the hardware topics. This role is responsible for to gathering and synthesise customer needs into clear product roadmaps, and requires a solid understanding of hardware development cycles and manufacturing processes. You will bridge the gap between customer needs, technological possibilities, and business objectives, driving the development of innovative hardware solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

• Set the strategic direction and roadmap for the hardware development of Varjo's next-generation VR/XR headsets, ensuring alignment with overall company vision.
• Collaborate closely with customers, partners, and sales teams to validate needs and gather detailed hardware requirements.
• Translate validated customer needs into comprehensive hardware specifications and product backlogs for engineering and design teams.
• Work intimately with hardware engineering teams to assess the customer and business implications of various technical hardware options and trade-offs.
• Lead hardware product discussions with senior management, external partners, and other stakeholders, effectively communicating plans, progress, and vision.
• Define and refine the product management program and processes specifically for hardware development.
• Drive priority trade-offs for hardware features and functionalities, ensuring optimal resource allocation and timely delivery.
• Communicate hardware product plans and vision across the organization, fostering a shared understanding and excitement for upcoming innovations.

Qualifications & Experience:

• Proven experience as a Senior Product Manager with a strong focus on hardware products, ideally in consumer electronics, XR/VR/AR, or complex technical devices.
• Familiarity with hardware development processes, from concept to mass production.
• Demonstrated ability to bridge the gap between highly technical engineering teams and customer/business requirements.
• Experience in defining long-run hardware roadmaps and managing feature backlogs for physical products.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of interacting effectively with technical teams, sales, customers, and senior management.
• A passion for cutting-edge technology and an understanding of the evolving landscape of virtual and mixed reality hardware.
