We are now seeking a Senior SME Lending Underwriter to join our expert underwriting team in Helsinki, Finland. This is a hybrid role, combining the benefits of home-office flexibility with regular collaboration in our Helsinki office.

Fluency in Finnish is essential for this role to accurately evaluate local applicants and liaise effectively with Finnish-speaking stakeholders.

Your focus:

• Evaluate and underwrite SME loan applications, ensuring alignment with credit policies and risk appetite.


• Conduct in-depth financial analysis of applicants, including financial statements, cash flow projections, and collateral evaluations.


• Assess borrower creditworthiness by analyzing credit histories, market conditions, industry risks, and overall financial health.


• Prepare comprehensive credit reports, including detailed risk assessments, recommendations, and appropriate credit terms.


• Collaborate with Loan Officers and other stakeholders to structure loan proposals that mitigate risk while maximizing returns.


• Monitor the performance of existing loan portfolios, identifying early warning signals of deteriorating credit quality and taking proactive measures.


• Stay up-to-date with market trends, economic developments, and regulatory changes affecting the SME loan sector.


• Provide mentorship to junior underwriters and analysts, sharing expertise and promoting best practices.


• Ensure compliance with internal policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.

Required skills & qualifications: Must-haves:

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, or related field.


• Minimum 2 years’ experience in underwriting, credit risk analysis, or similar roles in banking/financial services.


• Demonstrated experience in underwriting SME loans (secured and non-secured).


• Strong understanding of credit risk principles, financial analysis, and loan structuring.


• Skilled in analyzing financial statements, cash flows, and evaluating collateral.


• Excellent decision-making, problem-solving, and attention to detail.


• Effective communication and stakeholder collaboration skills.


• Fluency in Finnish and English.

Nice-to-haves:

• Master’s degree or certifications like CFA or FRM.
