Requirements
7+ years in Data Strategy or Data Management, including at least 3 years within the Energy & Utilities sector (Power, Gas, or Water).
As a Data Strategy Consultant, help Energy & Utilities (E&U) clients transition from fragmented legacy data silos to fully integrated, data\-driven enterprises.
Act as the lead architect for Master Data Management (MDM) strategies that enable critical industry initiatives such as grid modernization, renewable energy integration, and smart meter (AMI) deployments.
Beyond technical expertise, serve as a trusted advisor, demonstrating how a Single Source of Truth directly impacts operational reliability, regulatory compliance, and business performance.
Define and deliver enterprise data strategies aligned with business objectives such as reducing O&M costs, improving Customer\-to\-Meter journeys, and supporting ESG reporting.
Conduct data maturity assessments to identify gaps between current and target states.
Quantify business value and ROI for data initiatives to secure executive sponsorship.
Lead the design and implementation of MDM frameworks across core utility domains including Assets (transformers, substations, smart meters), Locations (GIS), and Customers.
Define data governance constructs such as survivorship rules, matching and merging logic, and golden record models.
Bridge IT and Operational Technology (OT) teams to ensure consistency of asset data across EAM (Enterprise Asset Management) and GIS platforms.
Establish data governance councils and define data ownership and stewardship models within utility organizations.
Design and implement Data Quality (DQ) frameworks to continuously monitor and improve the integrity of critical infrastructure data, ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
Advise on data integration strategies supporting Smart Grids, Distributed Energy Resources (DERs), and Customer Information Systems (CIS).
Apply industry standards such as CIM (Common Information Model) to ensure interoperability across utility systems.
Hands\-on experience or strategic leadership with MDM platforms such as Informatica, Profisee, Semarchy, or SAP Master Data Governance.
Strong understanding of Meter\-to\-Cash processes, Asset Lifecycle Management, and regulatory frameworks (FERC, NERC, or regional utility commissions).
Working knowledge of cloud data platforms (Snowflake, Databricks), GIS systems (Esri), and EAM solutions (SAP, IBM Maximo).
Bachelorâs or Masterâs degree in Data Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related discipline.
Ability to guide traditional utility organizations through large\-scale digital transformation.
Proven experience communicating effectively with C\-suite leaders, business stakeholders, and technical teams.
Skilled at translating complex data architectures into clear, compelling business narratives.
