Miniature Painter (Warhammer & Tabletop) - Relocation to Malta

Role Overview

We are seeking a full-time miniature painter to join a new project of an in-house studio and produce high-quality tabletop and display-level miniatures. This role focuses on preparation, assembly, and professional painting of Warhammer and similar tabletop miniatures, with an emphasis on consistency, attention to detail, and efficient workflows.

The ideal candidate is passionate about miniature painting, experienced with professional techniques, and excited to help build a long-term, dedicated studio rather than working on short-term commissions.

Responsibilities

·       Prepare, assemble, prime, and paint miniatures.

·       Apply professional techniques: thin coats, washes, dry-brushing, highlighting.

·       Paint both army batches and individual showcase pieces.

Preparation & Assembly

·       Clean and prepare miniatures (sprue washing, clipping, mold line removal).

·       Assemble miniatures using appropriate adhesives (plastic cement, super glue).

·       Dry-fit parts and sub-assemble where required for optimal paint access.

·       Mount miniatures on painting handles for stability.

Priming & Surface Prep

·       Prime miniatures using spray or airbrush primers (black, grey, white, zenithal).

·       Ensure smooth, even coverage suitable for high-detail painting.

Painting & Finishing

·       Apply basecoats using proper thinning and layering techniques.

·       Use washes/shades to enhance depth and readability.

·       Execute dry-brushing, edge highlighting, glazing, and blending as required.

·       Maintain fine detail without obscuring sculpted features.

·       Paint to different quality targets (tabletop+, display, showcase) when required.

·       Apply varnishes for durability and finish control (matte/satin/gloss).

Tools & Materials

·       Use wet palettes and maintain paint consistency.

·       Care for brushes (synthetic and sable) and studio tools.

·       Maintain a clean, organized workspace.

Quality & Workflow

·       Work efficiently without sacrificing quality.

·       Follow style guides or reference schemes where applicable.

·       Document recipes and techniques for consistency and repeatability.

·       Meet agreed timelines while maintaining professional standards.

Required Skills & Experience

Essential

·       Strong experience painting tabletop miniatures (Warhammer or equivalent).

·       Demonstrated understanding of miniature painting fundamentals:

·       Thin coats, paint control, washes, dry brushing, highlighting.

·       Excellent brush control and attention to detail.

·       Experience working with acrylic miniature paints.

·       Ability to produce consistent results across multiple models.

Preferred / Bonus Skills

·       Display-level or competition experience.

·       Airbrush experience (not required, but a plus).

·       Experience painting full armies with consistent schemes.

·       Experience working in a studio or commission-based environment.

·       Ability to mentor or guide junior painters (for future studio growth).
