Arbeitsbeschreibung - Automated Material Flow Engineer (m/f/d)

The Automated Material Flow Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and optimizing automated systems for material handling in manufacturing and supply chain environments. This includes overseeing the flow of materials, ensuring efficiency, and troubleshooting any technical issues related to automation processes. The role focuses on utilizing automation technologies such as conveyors, robotic systems, and automated storage and retrieval systems (ASRS) to streamline material movement and increase operational efficiency.
  • Design and Develop Automation Solutions:
    • Develop automated systems and material flow layouts to optimize the handling, transportation, and storage of materials within facilities.
    • Evaluate existing material handling systems and identify opportunities for improvement through automation.
    • Select and integrate appropriate hardware and software solutions to support automated systems.
  • System Integration and Implementation:
    • Coordinate the installation, commissioning, and testing of automated material handling systems.
    • Work closely with vendors, contractors, and internal teams to ensure proper integration of systems.
    • Provide technical guidance during the implementation phase to ensure optimal functionality and performance.
  • Process Optimization:
    • Analyze material flow data to identify inefficiencies, bottlenecks, and areas for improvement.
    • Develop strategies to optimize the flow of materials, reduce downtime, and improve throughput.
    • Continuously monitor system performance and make necessary adjustments to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Troubleshooting and Maintenance:
    • Troubleshoot and resolve any issues related to automated systems, including hardware, software, or connectivity issues.
    • Perform routine maintenance checks on automated equipment and systems to ensure optimal performance.
    • Work with maintenance teams to schedule and execute preventive maintenance activities.
  • Collaboration and Communication:
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including production, engineering, logistics, and IT, to ensure seamless material flow and process integration.
    • Communicate with stakeholders to report on system performance, potential issues, and project status.
  • Documentation and Reporting:
    • Maintain comprehensive documentation on system design, configuration, and modifications.
    • Prepare and present reports on system performance, efficiency improvements, and maintenance activities.
  • Safety and Compliance:
    • Ensure compliance with all safety standards, regulations, and best practices in the design and implementation of automated material handling systems.
    • Conduct risk assessments and safety audits of automated systems and materials handling processes.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in material handling systems, automation, or logistics engineering, with a focus on automated material flow systems.
  • Proven experience with automated storage and retrieval systems (ASRS), conveyors, robotics, and material handling equipment.
  • Strong knowledge of material flow systems, automation technologies, and control systems.
  • Familiarity with software tools for simulation, design, and analysis (e.g., AutoCAD, MATLAB, or similar).
  • Experience with PLC programming, robotics, and system integration.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret data related to system performance and make data-driven decisions.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
