Context

Co-funded by the CERV (Citizenship, Equality, Rights and Values) programme of the European Union, the SAFE - Support and Aid for Female Genitale Mutilation and Early and Forced Marriage project aims to prevent and combat the harmful practices of female genital mutilation (FGM) and early and forced marriage (EFM) among affected communities in 6 EU Member States: Belgium (BE), France (FR), Germany (DE), Ireland (IE), Italy (IT) and Spain (ES). Both practices are often intertwined forms of gender-based violence.

SAFE aims to involve women and girls from the communities most at risk through empowerment initiatives, enhancing the role of Community Leaders and Community Experts. The project also includes training and skills development of professionals in the education, health and migration sectors. It also promotes awareness-raising and information activities aimed at women and men in the communities most exposed to these practices, in addition to networking following the intervention chain model, which guarantees a human rights-based approach, attentive to communities and sensitive to gender issues.

Aim of the role

We are looking for 2 Community Leaders to achieve the following objectives:

  • Act as a point of reference for the project's group of 6 Community Experts, supporting their training needs and offering assistance through empowerment meetings
  • CL provide refresher training for 6 community experts in collaboration with the project manager
  • Contribute to the development of the online toolkit for the training of "community multipliers", women and men from the communities who will be trained on the project's themes to promote its dissemination and sustainability over time of the proposed actions
  • Collaborate with the Project Manager/Coordinator in the implementation of the planned activities, with particular reference to raising awareness in the communities and training professionals in the health, education and migration sectors as well as in schools. The Community Leader will act as a link between TERRE DES FEMMES and the Community Experts, ensuring an effective exchange of information and facilitating collaboration within the project team.

General description of the role

The Community Leader plays a central role in the implementation and success of the SAFE project. We are looking for a competent and committed person above 18 years on the themes of the project, preferably originating from and belonging to communities in which FGM or EFM are still practiced. It is essential that the Community Leader has a thorough knowledge of his/her community of origin/belonging and is able to accompany and support the group of Community Experts selected for the project.

The Community Leader rejects all forms of male violence against women and girls and is willing to get involved, challenging ideas and preconceptions that determine and fuel gender inequalities, among the main root causes of FGM and EFM. In carrying out the requested activities, she/he must always adopt an approach that is sensitive to cultural and gender differences.

Residency or domicile in Berlin or the surrounding area, a good knowledge of German and/or English and availability to travel in Germany and abroad (Brussels), where necessary, are required.

Previous experience and/or demonstrated knowledge on the topic of FGM and/or EFM.

Previous experience in a European or local project, with knowledge of basic reporting tools and digital tools necessary for project management.

Previous experience in activities to combat violence, stereotypes and gender inequalities, as well as in actions to promote women's human rights.

Ability to relate to people and stakeholders at various levels and in different fields.

Previous experience in the development and delivery of training modules for professionals, preferably on topics such as gender-based violence and harmful practices.

Required tasks

The Community Leader is responsible for implementing the following activities:

  • Participate in at least 3 preparation and planning meetings with the TERRE DES FEMMES project team
  • Support the Project Manager in the search and selection of 6 Community Expert figures in Berlin
  • Participate in 8 training meetings aimed at Community Experts, supporting the organization of the meetings and their reporting
  • Organize 4 empowerment and planning meetings with the Community Expert group
  • Organize and planning a Community Event with the Community Expert group
  • Contribute by writing modules and participating in at least 3 meetings for the development of the online platform for virtual learning and community training on harmful practices
  • Support the Project Manager by the Development of a Europe-wide Intervention Chain (EU-IC). Being present at the one-day international symposium (online) with focus on the Launch of the EU-IC
  • Support the Project Manager in coordinating community empowerment and training initiatives for professionals in the health and migration sectors, carried out by the Community Expert group, ensuring the correct execution of the activities and accurate reporting
  • Participate in the Kick-off meeting online to present the information and awareness-raising path aimed at school and educational staff
  • Participate in trainings at 8 schools/educational centres (4 locations per CL)
  • Participate in Awareness Trainings for students and learners/youth
  • Support the Project Manager in awareness-raising through social media content
  • Support the Project Manager in raising awareness through film screenings (3 per screening per CL)
  • Participation in advcocay meetings on national level and EU-level

Salary

11.500 Euro gross for collaboration throughout the entire project.

The contract will end upon achievement of the expected results and delivery of any reporting and evaluation documents requested.

A continuous collaboration contract is expected. The figure will report and coordinate with and to the SAFE Project Manager/Coordinator.

Commitment and duration

The assignment is scheduled from May 2025 to September 2027 and a commitment of approximately 650 total hours of activity on the territory is estimated, divided according to the objectives established and the needs that emerged during the project.
