Director R&D - Langer Medical

Dr. Langer Medical GmbH, based in Waldkirch, Germany, which has been part of Brainlab in Munich since 2022, has specialized in the development and marketing of highly innovative medical technology for intraoperative neuromonitoring and neurostimulation for more than 25 years. We are seeking an experienced and visionary Director of our Research and Development team to lead and drive our R&D initiatives. In this role, you will be an essential member of our strategic leadership team, directly responsible for managing a cross-functional team that includes software developers, mechanical engineers and electronic hardware engineers. The ideal candidate combines deep scientific expertise with strong management skills and a passion for advancing healthcare. This position is based at Langer Medical’s headquarters in Waldkirch, near Freiburg, and reports directly to the General Manager.

As Director R&D at Langer Medical, you will

• lead, develop and execute the R&D strategy aligned with company goals and market needs
• oversee the end-to-end R&D lifecycle, from concept ideation through product development to regulatory approval
• manage and mentor a multidisciplinary R&D team including software developers, mechanical engineers, and electronic engineers, fostering innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning
• collaborate closely with the General Manager (GM) to align R&D objectives with overall business strategy and operational goal
• collaborate closely with peers in quality management, production and purchasing to ensure seamless product delivery
• identify and implement improvement programs / activities in all areas of R&D
• develop and maintain close relationship with clinical KOLs
• coordinate deliverables with internal and external stakeholders
• assess requirements and implement solutions to ensure employee development
• support GM in realizing our national and international growth plans by defining and implementing the appropriate structure and processes
• act as interface to Brainlab R&D teams and foster and coordinate intercompany development projects in the areas of neurosurgery, spine and data science

• University degree in a field of study which is related to the Langer Medical business and R&D technologies (e.g. engineering, physics, electrical engineering, medical engineering, etc. )
• Strong record of successfully leading a mid-size to large team
• Strong organizational skills and proven ability to develop and implement long-term strategies / goals
• Good business sense and proven experience in business partner management
• Good understanding in Medical Device development for Class II and III
• Fluent communication skills in English and German
