Director, Sustainability (f/m/x)

About the role 

As the Director of Sustainability (f/m/x), you will lead our International Sustainability Department, defining and driving group targets, new project scopes, and evolving the team structure. You will be key to furthering HelloFresh's position as a leader in climate change mitigation, food waste reduction, and sustainable sourcing through innovations that are commercially viable and globally scalable. This role requires an individual who is not only a subject matter expert, but a strategic leader capable of managing people managers and influencing stakeholders across the organization.

What you’ll do

• Strategy: Develop and guide the execution of our group-wide sustainability strategy, defining new scopes and group targets to advance our position as an industry leader.


• Team Management: Directly manage our Berlin-based sustainability team while providing steering and guidance to sustainability staff in local markets, fostering a culture of high performance and growth.


• Stakeholder Collaboration: Serve as a key point of contact for international markets and cross-functional teams (Brand, Procurement, Communications, Product), driving collaboration on new group targets and strengthening our sustainability community.


• ESG Reporting: Oversee the Global ESG reporting team, ensuring the delivery of accurate and compliant non-financial reporting, with a specific focus on meeting CSRD requirements.


• Innovation: Identify and support commercially viable, globally scalable sustainability initiatives, from regenerative agriculture to consumer empowerment, that align with our long-term business goals.

What you’ll bring

• Industry Experience: extensive prior experience working in Sustainability, Strategic partnership management experience, working with consultancy partners, NGOs, industry bodies, and/or regulators.


• Technical Knowledge: Expert-level understanding of key sustainability concepts, including GHG Protocol, Life Cycle Assessment, and Triple Horizon Planning.


• Regulatory Acumen: Demonstrated experience working with ESG reporting frameworks such as CSRD, NFRD, CDP, and GRI, along with a deep understanding of compliance requirements.


• Business Mindset: A pragmatic and entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to take initiative, work independently, and build sustainable solutions grounded in sound environmental economic thinking.


• Leadership: Proven leadership skills with the ability to inspire and empower team members by being a role model. You are comfortable challenging the status quo and leading organizational change across various areas of the business. 


• Communication: Exceptional communication skills, capable of presenting complex, critical information to all levels of the organization (up to C-level and Supervisory Board).
