Legal Counsel (m/f/x)

The developer-first platform grants access to the world’s leading providers of optical, radar, elevation, and aerial data, all in one place, and offers flexible APIs and a Python SDK to help build and scale solutions. Users can search the catalog for existing imagery, or task a satellite to capture a desired area. Whatever the use case, UP42 is the one-stop-shop for all geospatial data needs.

We are looking for a part-time Legal Counsel (m/f/x) to join our motivated team in Berlin. The ideal candidate will provide expert legal support to various departments, e.g. Sales, Partnerships, Customer Success, and Product, addressing compliance issues, drafting agreements, and participating in negotiation discussions while mitigating legal risk.

What you will do:

• In close collaboration with our Senior Operations & Compliance Manager, you will be the main point of contact for all commercial contracts activities.

• You will draft, standardize, update and maintain contract templates, and other legal documentation.

• You will review and edit third party drafts of contracts.

• By understanding our business model and the UP42 product by heart, you will provide legal advice and support to business teams by negotiating contracts directly with vendors as necessary.

• You will conduct legal research and analysis as required.

• With your exceptional prioritization skills, you will deliver practical yet robust solutions in time-sensitive scenarios.

• You will oversee the authentication process of legal documentation and maintain an organized filing system, and support legal operations with essential administrative tasks.

Here is a good summary of what we are looking for:

• You have European jurisdiction or completed 1st / 2nd state examination in law or a comparable degree (Business Laws, Bachelor or Master of Laws).

• You have several years of post-graduation experience as an in-house counsel and/or from a law firm in an international setting.

• You bring in excellent knowledge in the following two areas of the law:

  • Contract- and trade law;

  • IP/IT law (AI, Data, SaaS, proprietary [embedded] software, OSS)

• You would describe your expertise with a strong track record of drafting and negotiating a wide range of commercial agreements, including sales, MSAs, software and technology agreements, and partnership agreements, as well as creating repeatable, scalable processes in an international setting.

• You are passionate about information technology.

• You embody excellent communication and negotiation skills.

• You have the ability to work independently and as part of cross-functional teams, with strong problem-solving and analytical skills.

• And last but not least: You’re fully business-fluent in English.

Bonus points if you bring:

• Working knowledge or background in geospatial science.

• Knowledge of the EU data protection laws.

• Knowledge of Export Control regulations.

• Work experience in a multinational company.
