In 2004, volunteer Wikipedia activists founded the non-profit association Wikimedia Deutschland in Berlin, which now consists of over 110,000 members and 190 full-time staff.

Free knowledge leads to a fairer world. Wikipedia is the most important online knowledge collection of our time. The German Wikipedia alone records almost 1 billion page views per month for a total of 3 million articles. We - Wikimedia Deutschland e. V. - support the volunteers of Wikipedia and its sister projects, develop free software, such as Wikidata, and advocate for free access to knowledge, the opening of education and research, and more common good orientation in data policy.

For our Software Engineering Department we are looking for a permanent Partnerships Manager (all genders), full-time (40 hours / week), ideally starting 01.09.2026 or sooner.

This position is designed as a hybrid working model with regular presence in our Berlin office.

Tasks

The Software Communications team is the bridge between the software development department and the Wikimedia communities for three main programs: Wikidata, Wikibase and Technical Wishes. It is integrated into the development process to provide continual feedback to the department and the communities and manages relationships with Cultural Heritage and Knowledge Institutions, Science and Research Institutions and other partners.

You will be part of a team of eight community, partner, communications and advocation specialists and you will act as the first contact person and relationship manager with partners in Wikibase and Wikidata and their projects. You also navigate communication with organisations outside the Wikimedia communities and you promote Wikibase and Wikidata to wide audiences.

What you’ll be doing:

• You manage global relationships with cultural heritage and knowledge institutions (including GLAMs) as well as relationships with science and research partners, and other organisations who are working with Wikibase/Wikidata projects.
• You support broader outreach and community engagement of Wikibase and Wikidata by attending events to spread awareness of their projects and by developing new personal and organisational contacts in close collaboration with the Software Communications Team.
• You organize, establish and/or run Wikidata and Wikibase educational workshops and trainings for partners and/or communities.
• You explain the functions and uses of Wikibase/Wikidata to diverse online and offline communities, through clear and accessible communication and by gathering feedback from the online community.
• Actively support Software Communications Team members across roles, stepping in with practical assistance based on your skills and availability to ensure smooth team operations.
• You embrace and foster diversity within your team and within your communities.

Requirements

What makes you right for this role:

• You are a strong communicator and networker who thrives in partnering with institutions, communities and organisations and managing relationships with the Wikibase and Wikidata communities.
• You have a good understanding of the cultural sector as well as the science and research domain and are interested in working closely with cultural heritage and knowledge institutions (including GLAMs).
• You have an awareness of knowledge equity principles and working with open knowledge communities and ideally you also bring an understanding of databases and digital networks as well as Free Knowledge and the Commons.
• You are a skilled educator and your strong presentation skills can be seen in design and delivery, no matter if it’s live presentations, training, workshops or other events. You’re prepared to travel inside and outside Germany (approximately 20 days per year).
• Diving deep into a topic is something you genuinely enjoy, and so is sharing knowledge with others.
• You are perceived as friendly, open-minded, honest and engaging which is shown by your clear and inclusive communication across diverse audiences.
• You have excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, as well as good knowledge of the German language or the willingness to learn it.
