Postdoc | Myeloid Cell Biology in Lung Fibrosis

The Position

Step into a postdoctoral role where your research will directly advance our understanding of how macrophages shape fibrotic lung disease. By combining in vitro macrophage co-culture systems with in vivo depletion and repopulation studies, you will generate mechanistic and longitudinal insight into fibrosis-relevant myeloid cell biology. You will establish robust assays to quantify macrophage-driven pro-fibrotic and pro-repair effects across lung-relevant cell systems and develop approaches for longitudinal macrophage tracking in vivo.Working closely with interdisciplinary experts across discovery research, you will independently design, execute, and communicate high-impact studies that connect macrophage behavior to fibrosis-relevant endpoints.

Tasks & responsibilities

• In your new role, you will characterize macrophage state and function using relevant molecular, cellular, and immunophenotyping readouts in lung fibrosis models and contribute to the development of robust experimental workflows and analysis pipelines.


• In addition, you will design and execute in vivo studies to assess macrophage depletion and repopulation kinetics and relate these dynamics to fibrosis-relevant outcomes.


• You will establish, optimize, and apply macrophage co-culture systems with lung-relevant cell types to investigate fibrosis-associated cellular interactions.


• Furthermore, you will quantify macrophage-driven fibrosis-relevant endpoints in vitro, including extracellular matrix remodeling, fibroblast activation and impact on epithelial cells.


• You will independently plan and execute experiments with high scientific and operational quality, present key findings in cross-functional settings and at international conferences and publish in peer-reviewed journals.


• Beyond this, you will collaborate closely within a multidisciplinary team and may contribute to the supervision of students or junior scientists, supporting scientific exchange and project progress.

Requirements

• PhD in Immunology, Cell Biology, Molecular Medicine, Pulmonary Research, or a related life science discipline


• Strong background in myeloid cell biology, macrophage biology, or related disease biology, including hands-on experience with relevant in vitro and/or in vivo models


• Experience with fibrosis and/or pulmonary research is a plus.


• Experience with flow cytometry, immunological methods and in vivo experiments is a must.


• Experience with in vivo imaging or 3D culture systems is a plus.
