Arbeitsbeschreibung - Postdoctoral researcher in acute leukemia research - Department of Hematology/Oncology

The Department of Hematology/Oncology of the university hospital in Frankfurt offers a broad diagnostic and therapeutic spectrum for patients with solid tumors, as well as malignant diseases of the hematopoietic system and investigates it's development, progression, as well as therapy resistance. The Max-Eder Junior Research Group (funded by the German Cancer Aid) lead by Dr. med. Anjali Cremer is dedicated to deciphering oncogenic signaling transduction mechanisms, identification and characterization of viability regulators, as well as the analyses of resistance mechanisms to targeted therapies in acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL).

The lab itself is embedded in the excellent research infrastructure of the university hospital in Frankfurt. Leukemia research is one of the main focuses of the Department of Hеmatology/Oncology, as well as of the Frankfurt Cancer Institute and the DKTK partner site Frankfurt. Moreover there are multiple possibilities for collaborations with scientists from the Georg-Speyer Haus.

The position is fixed-term for a period of two years.

Your Role:

  • The project will focus on dissecting the transcriptional oncogenic network that helps to maintain acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) in order to identify new therapeutic vulnerabilities that can be targeted directly and/or indirectly.
  • Your tasks include conceptually design scientific projects, plan, establish and analyze in vitro as well as in vivo experiments, as well as writing of manuscripts and grants.
  • To answer our scientific questions we are applying the following experimental techniques (among others): innovative CRISPR-Cas9 screening technologies, quantitative global and phospho Proteomics, RNAseq, Next Generation DNA Sequencing, FACS analysis and cell sorting, proteasomal degradation, working with primary patient samples, access to clinical patient data, experimental in vivo mouse techniques (C57BL/6 or NSG mice).
  • The applicant should hold a PhD degree in cancer research or in a related field.
  • Track record of publications in peer-reviewed journals, ideally including a first authorship.
  • A high level of motivation, flexibility and responsibility as well as very good communication skills in German or English are expected.
  • Expertise in experimental techniques (e.g. genome editing; high throughput sequencing analyses, flow cytometry) is an advantage.
  • Experience in animal experiments (FELASA B or C certificate) is an advantage.
  • Motivation to learn, apply and establish new techniques, ability to critically analyze and reflect data.
  • Ability to intelectually drive a scientific project and implement required experiments and analyses
  • Experience with bioinformatic analyses (e.g. RNAseq, NGS) is an advantage.
  • Very good skills with the following programs GraphPad Prism, FlowJo, Adobe Illustrator is an advantage.
  • Due to legal requirements, valid proof of measles immunity or measles vaccination is required.
