* Please note that this position may be closed earlier than the deadline if a certain number of applications is received therefore early applications are encouraged.

Democracy Reporting International (DRI) is a non-partisan, independent, not-for-profit organisation registered in Berlin with several country offices worldwide. DRI promotes political participation of citizens, accountability of state bodies, and the development of democratic institutions worldwide.
DRI is currently recruiting a Board Member.

Your tasks

What does the Supervisory Board do?
Board members play an active role in keeping DRI relevant, well-governed, and growing. In practice, this means:
  • Carrying out governance functions under our gGmbH statutes, including oversight of the executive directors
  • Advising and supporting DRI's management
  • Helping mobilise resources through your networks, and representing DRI at meetings and events
  • Contributing to shaping DRI's overall strategy
It's a chance to engage closely with a team of around 60 people working on some of the most pressing democracy challenges of our time — from rule of law and digital rights to anti-polarisation. You can read more about our work and strategy here.

Conditions
Board membership runs for four years. The start date is to be agreed. The role is voluntary and unremunerated. Travel and accommodation for board meetings and official DRI representation are covered by DRI.

Your skills and experience

What would the role look like in practice?

Board members attend four meetings per year (usually three online meetings and one in-person meeting in Berlin), read monthly updates, and stay in regular contact with fellow board members. You'd draw on your networks and expertise to advise DRI's management and advance our mission. The time commitment averages around 2–4 hours per month. You're also welcome to join DRI events in your area of expertise or participate in field missions or public events.

What are we looking for?

We're particularly looking for someone with a background in communications, outreach, finances or fundraising — expertise that would complement existing board strengths in diplomacy, politics, management, media, and law. A genuine commitment to democracy and political pluralism is essential.
You should be fluent in English (other languages are a plus) and able to travel to Berlin once a year.
We value diversity and actively encourage applications from people whose background and perspective would complement those of our existing board and team.

Application Instructions

Closing date for applications: 04.06.2026. The position may be closed before the deadline has been reached, so early applications are encouraged.
