Technical Manager Shipping (f/m/d)

Ernst Russ AG is a publicly traded Hamburg-based shipping company with a history dating back to 1893. The company's goal is to maintain a sustainable and broadly diversified fleet with a balanced risk profile in terms of charter periods and contracting partners. The existing fleet comprises container ships of various sizes, supplemented by multipurpose vessels and a handysize bulker. In addition, the group has an order book of newbuilds that will be delivered in the coming years and will drive the strategic development of the fleet.

We are looking for a Technical Manager Shipping (m/f/d) to join our team (f/m/d)

• Monitor and review vessels technical performance, planned maintenance and environmental compliance
• Preparing of annual and drydocking budget in cooperation with external managers and supervision of budget
• Coordination of drydocking, overhaul and major repair schedules with external technical manager
• Monitor external technical and crew managers compliance with all applicable international regulations, including ISM, ISPS, SOLAS, MARPOL, MLC, STCW, OCIMF, Class and Flag-State requirements
• Challenge the performance of external technical and crew managers and establish an adequate reporting system
• Review technical inspection reports, audits, incidents, accidents, near misses, non-conformities, deficiencies, Class status and conditions, PSC and vetting observations and ensure root-cause analysis, corrective actions and preventive measures
• Support investigations of major incidents, accidents, near misses, cargo claims, pollution events, personal injuries and machinery failures
• Ensure external managers prepare vessels properly for inspections, surveys, audits, vetting inspections and port-state control
• Conduct or coordinate Owner's inspections, management audits and vessel visits and prepare relevant inspection reports
• Review operational risks connected with cargo handling, port calls, trading areas, special operations, heavy-lift/project cargo, dry bulk cargoes, container operations and tanker trades
• Support the development of internal technical assurance standards, manager review process and QHSE governance framework

• Marine engineering, nautical, shipmanagement, maritime safety, naval architecture or comparable maritime qualification, preferable seagoing experience on tankers as Chief Engineer
• Relevant experience in technical shipmanagement, QHSE, marine operations, fleet supervision
• Good knowledge of international maritime regulations
• Firm but pragmatic personality, strong communication skills with technical managers, masters and senior officers
• Experience with vessel inspections, audits, incident investigations, tanker vetting, SIRE/CDI, oil-major requirements and OCIMF standards
• Strong written and spoken English
• Willingness to travel for vessel inspections
