The Mission of the Space Sales Engineer

Translate ICEYE's space-based ISR capabilities into mission outcomes German customers can buy, defend, and operationalise.

You are the technical conscience of every deal in Germany. You sit between users in the Bundeswehr, BND, BMVg, BAAINBw,, and ICEYE's satellite engineering, tasking, and product teams on the other. You speak fluently to both — explaining orbital mechanics, revisit rates, SAR phenomenology, and tasking trade-offs to operators and procurement officers, while pulling real mission requirements back into our roadmap and proposal work.

You will be the person who can stand in front of a two-star general or an Aerospace Engineer of a consortium partner and sketch a constellation geometry on a whiteboard, then sit down the same afternoon and run the link budget, revisit calculation, or coverage analysis that proves it. You make the impossible feel buyable.

Who we are

ICEYE delivers space-based intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) capabilities to governments and allied nations. This includes sovereign and turnkey ISR missions leveraging ICEYE's world-leading synthetic aperture radar (SAR) satellite technology, as well as access to data from the world's largest SAR satellite constellation. These capabilities enable partners to detect and respond to critical changes anywhere on Earth with unprecedented speed and accuracy – day or night and in any weather, supported by ultra high-resolution imagery and high-frequency revisits.

As a trusted partner for defense, intelligence, security, and maritime domain awareness, ICEYE's near real-time data creates a tactical advantage for mission-critical operations. Designed for dual use, the platform also serves civil protection and commercial users for natural-catastrophe intelligence, insurance, maritime monitoring (including oil-spill detection), and finance, contributing to global security and community resilience.

ICEYE operates internationally with offices in Finland, Poland, Spain, Japan, the UAE, Greece, the US — and Germany, where we are building a new private intelligence capability for the German and wider European market. The company has more than 900 employees, inspired by the shared vision of improving life on Earth by becoming the global source of truth in Earth Observation.



Expected Outcomes & Requirements

Outcomes:

  • Own the technical win on every priority German pursuit. Within 6 months, you are the named technical lead on the top opportunities in our ICEYE German operations, and customers and industry partners ask for you by name.

  • Convert mission needs into solution architectures. Translate Bundeswehr, intelligence community, and federal customer requirements into concrete solution designs - constellation configurations, tasking concepts, ground segment options, data product specs - that engineering signs off on and customers can budget against.

  • Run the numbers that close deals. Deliver the calculations that turn ambition into procurement: revisit and coverage analyses, area-of-interest sizing, latency budgets, image quality trade-offs, and the techno-economic models that underpin proposals and sovereign mission business cases.

  • Raise the technical bar of the German organisation. Build the playbooks, demos, and reference architectures the rest of the German team uses. Coach Sales Executives so they can carry a credible technical conversation without you in the room.

  • Be ICEYE's sensor in Germany. Feed structured requirements, competitive intelligence, and gap analyses back to product and engineering in Finland, so the roadmap reflects what German customers actually need.

  • Become the trusted partner for consortium planning, integration and delivery for a German space capability that delivers at speed and scale.

  • Empower our Joint Venture Rheinmetall ICEYE Space Solution with knowledge transfer and analysis.

Role-specific Competences

  • New Space and space domain fluency. You speak the language of orbits, payloads, revisit, GSD, swath, NIIRS, tasking latency, ground segment, and downlink architecture without a cheat sheet. You understand how New Space economics differ from legacy primes, and you can explain that difference to a customer who has only ever bought from one.

  • SAR, EO, Thermal mission engineering background. Hands-on experience with synthetic aperture radar, optical EO, signals, or comparable ISR sensors — ideally across mission design, exploitation, or operations. You know what each sensor image actually shows and what it doesn't.

  • Quantitative solutioning. You can build the model — revisit, coverage, link budget, AoI economics, mission cost — in a spreadsheet or notebook, defend the assumptions, and present the result to a customer the same week.

  • German defence and intelligence market literacy. You understand how BAAINBw, BMVg, BWI, BND, and BMI procurement actually work — CPM, EVB-IT, classified contracting, German industry participation expectations — and can shape technical proposals that survive that machinery. Existing security clearance (Ü2 / Ü3) is a strong plus.

  • Customer-facing presence in two registers. You can inspire in a keynote and reassure in a SCIF. Fluent German and English, with the ability to brief at C-level, general officer level, and working level — sometimes in the same day.

  • AI-native, tool-fluent working style. You use modern tooling — GenAI, geospatial stacks, Python, scripting — to turn around analyses and proposals at scale-up speed, not prime speed.

Application Process

  1. Intro conversation with Talent Acquisition (30 min)

  2. Hiring manager interview with the Managing Director, ICEYE Germany (60 min)

  3. Technical case: a take-home mission design / revisit analysis exercise, presented and defended live to a panel including the Intel Lead and a member of the Missions engineering team (90 min)

  4. Cross-functional interviews with Sales, Product, and a senior ICEYE leader (3 × 45 min)

  5. Final conversation and reference checks
