About the role: 

At BioNTech, we are advancing digitalization across various systems, including SAP ERP, MES, and LIMS, to support our mission of transforming healthcare. As part of our growth strategy, we are expanding our efforts to implement a global LIMS platform tailored to research and development needs. This initiative is a key component of building a comprehensive R&D digital ecosystem, which is currently being rolled out to our labs to enhance scientific processes and capabilities.

As System Engineer Service Owner, you will play a crucial role in designing, deploying, and managing software solutions that enable the digital transformation of R&D labs. You will take strategic responsibility and technical ownership of specific applications across their lifecycle—identifying optimal solutions for business needs, ensuring alignment with governance frameworks, and acting as the primary point of contact for delivering best-in-class solutions in your area. With deep expertise in R&D lab systems, you will collaborate across functions to maintain consistent processes aligned with BioNTech’s standards and goals.

Your contribution: 

• Lead the design and deployment of software solutions like LIMS, ELN, SDMS, automation tools, and data evaluation platforms to optimize R&D lab operations


• Develop technical concepts tailored to business needs while adhering to governance frameworks


• Take full ownership of technical aspects during implementation phases, ensuring seamless delivery


• Manage application lifecycle processes, including strategic planning and change management


• Configure or customize software solutions based on user requirements for optimal functionality


• Serve as the point of contact for stakeholders to ensure satisfaction with the software landscape

A good match:

• Degree in Biology, Computer Science, Engineering, Pharmacy, or related fields with relevant experience in pharma IT or process management


• Strong technical affinity for identifying optimal solutions to complex challenges


• Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python, JavaScript, Groovy, or PowerShell


• Knowledge of relational databases and SQL; familiarity with programming languages like Java or C# is a plus


• Understanding of device communication standards (e.g., OPC UA/DA and SiLA2) and system integration expertise in laboratory settings


• Exceptional communication skills paired with experience working in agile environments


• Fluency in English; German proficiency is an advantage
