Technical Director (m/w/d)

We are a leading logistics technology company shaping the future of the transport and supply chain industry. Our mission: to transform legacy systems, drive technical innovation, and build scalable, future-proof platforms. To strengthen our team, we are looking for a Technical Director (f/m/d) who will actively lead our technological transformation – with strategic vision, strong execution skills, and a true hands-on mentality.
In this key role, you will take full technical ownership of our platform, lead an international engineering team, make decisive architecture choices, and confidently drive the modernization of our system landscape.

• Technical leadership: Oversee the transformation of our software architecture from legacy systems to modern technologies (Cloud, Microservices, API-first).
• Hands-on leadership: You’re not just a strategist, you’re also a doer. You actively support the team with architecture decisions, code reviews, prototyping, and complex technical challenges.
• Architecture & technology choices: You make informed decisions on tools, frameworks, and platforms to ensure our tech stack is sustainable and future-ready.
• Team leadership & coaching: You build a strong, motivated development team and help existing talent grow (international team of 20 engineers). You care about mentoring, technical excellence, and positive team culture.
• Stakeholder management: You work closely with Product Management, Operations, and the Executive Team, translating technical complexity into clear language and aligning business and technology goals.
• Quality & processes: You expand our best practices in development, testing, and deployment (CI/CD, DevOps), and drive measurable improvements in code quality, performance, and security.
• Budget responsibility: You plan, manage, and monitor the tech department’s budget.

Your Goals

• Successfully modernize our platform without disrupting live operations
• Build a scalable and maintainable architecture that supports company growth
• Reduce technical debt and establish sustainable development practices
• Build and evolve a strong, self-organized engineering team
• Improve time-to-market for new features and increase platform stability

• Several years of experience as a Tech Director, Head of Engineering, or Lead Architect – ideally in transformation projects
• Deep technical expertise in software development (e.g. Java, Spring Boot) and modern architecture (Microservices, event-driven architectures, cloud platforms)
• Practical experience in transforming legacy systems
• Hands-on mentality: you're not afraid to get into the code yourself
• Proven experience in leading, motivating, and developing engineering teams
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to make technical topics understandable to non-tech stakeholders
• Strong analytical thinking, decision-making ability, and a high sense of ownership
• Fluent in both German and English, spoken and written

• Experience with logistics software (TMS, WMS, carrier integrations)
• Knowledge of scalable, high-availability platforms
• Experience in regulated environments (e.g. compliance, data security)
