Arbeitsbeschreibung - Internship in Molecular Biology/Biotechnology R&D (m/f/d)

At Roche you can show up as yourself, embraced for the unique qualities you bring. Our culture encourages personal expression, open dialogue, and genuine connections,  where you are valued, accepted and respected for who you are, allowing you to thrive both personally and professionally. This is how we aim to prevent, stop and cure diseases and ensure everyone has access to healthcare today and for generations to come. Join Roche, where every voice matters.

The Position

Would you like to help develop solutions for tomorrow’s healthcare? At Roche in Penzberg—Europe’s largest biotechnology center near Munich—you’ll work at the intersection of research, development, and production for Diagnostics and Pharma. During your internship, we offer you the opportunity to actively contribute to innovative projects in research and development, get to know different business areas, and gain valuable insights into the day-to-day operations of a global healthcare company.

The Team

You’ll be joining the CoreLab Development research and development network within Roche Diagnostics. Our small, independent, and diverse team currently consists of 10 members. We focus on molecular diagnostics, biopharma analytics, and biopharma reagents. We accompany new product developments from the initial concept through to market launch and beyond. Additionally, we contribute to technology evaluations, troubleshooting, and support marketing by creating promotional materials.

Your Challenges

  • You will play an active role in various work packages, sub-projects, and projects aimed at developing and optimizing bioreagents such as enzymes, nucleotides, and enzyme kits. As part of this, you’ll also be introduced to method and assay development as well as statistical experimental design (DoE) in an industrial setting

  • You’ll research, plan, implement, and conduct analyses and experiments in close collaboration with your team and supervisor

  • Furthermore, you will help prepare reports and present your findings within the team, as well as to colleagues in related departments and interface partners

Your Profile

  • You are currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Biochemistry, (Molecular) Biology, Biotechnology or a comparable university program, or you are in a gap year

  • You enjoy lab work and experimental tasks, including evaluating complex series of experiments

  • You are enthusiastic about engaging with people and working together in a team to develop concepts and discuss our work scientifically

  • You have an open-minded, inclusive, and authentic nature.

  • Curiosity, enthusiasm, and joy are essential companions on your journey

Your Skills

  • Your studies have equipped you with a solid theoretical foundation in disciplines such as Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, or related areas

  • You have practical experience with molecular biology techniques (e.g., qPCR, cloning, working with nucleic acids), biochemistry (enzyme activity, proteins), or analytical chemistry (homogeneous assays, HPLC, photometry, fluorometry, electrophoresis). Ideally, you have gained lab experience through internships, student assistant jobs, or during thesis projects

  • You are able to organize and structure your work independently

  • You approach challenges and ideas enthusiastically, working systematically and solution-oriented, while remaining open to creative and flexible approaches

  • You communicate confidently with your team and our partners in English, both spoken and written. German is helpful but not required

Your Benefits

  • Flexible working hours and possible flexitime, arranged with the team

  • €2268/month compensation for a full-time internship (37.5 h/week)

  • Networking with other interns and students

  • 50% discount in our cafeteria

  • Sport Center on campus

  • Option for paid accommodation in the Roche Boarding House

  • Convenient transport to Munich with our subsidized Roche shuttle

Your Application

Please note: This internship is for students (m/f/d) enrolled for the entire duration of the internship, or individuals in a gap year (up to one year, between Bachelor’s and Master’s studies) who can provide written documentation of their university, and when (month/year) studies will resume within one year.

Please note that recommendations for all student activities (e.g. internships, theses, etc.) are excluded.

Internship period: Starting August 15th, 2026, or by agreement, for 6 months.
