Wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter/Doktorand (w/m/d) - LS Financial Accounting

We seek a motivated doctoral student to join the new chair of Financial Accounting under the supervision of Prof. Harm Schütt.  Prof. Schütt’s research appears in leading international journals and uses advanced empirical methods to provide new insights into the impact of new trends on the efficiency of financial information flows. The mission of our new chair is to help stakeholders better understand how financial information guides and influences belief formation in capital markets. Current topics include, for example:

• Exploring new approaches to measuring human capital and assessing its importance in today’s markets.
• Investigating how accounting numbers and financial disclosures inform investors about the riskiness of a firm’s expected future performance.
• Exploring new approaches to value a firm’s data stock and assessing its importance in today’s markets.
• Exploring new quantitative approaches to forecasting future firm performance and the importance of high-quality accounting systems as a basis.

A successful candidate will engage in cutting-edge empirical research in one of the abovementioned areas or a suitable, related area, benefitting from close interaction and support from our faculty and other doctoral students. Engaging in PhD studies is a valuable learning journey. While independent thought and drive are key, we are committed to guiding and fostering you on your journey.

• Conducting independent and collaborative research within the purview of the Chair.
• Completing the doctoral thesis - a collection of three research papers - is the main goal. Working towards it is the core of your day-to-day activities.
• The base salary is a 2/3 position. Thus, successful candidates are only to a limited extent engaged in administration and teaching. For example, they proctor and grade exams or act as co-readers on theses in their area of research expertise.

You fulfill most of the following requirements:

• You have a very good master-level university degree (in economics, business, management, statistics, etc.,) or will have one soon.
• You are intellectually curious, reliable, and a team-player.
• You can independently structure problems and develop solutions.
• Familiarity with statistics and/or econometrics is beneficial. If not, a strong motivation to learn advanced methods is required.
• Basic familiarity with R or Python is a significant advantage. However, we offer courses and mentoring to refresh and further develop your programming skills. 
• You can converse and present in English well and fluently.
