Job Description

The Database Administrator is a member of a team of technology experts specialising in various tasks associated with Database (DB) administration and maintenance. The primary tasks are focused on ensuring excellent uptime and performance of the DB and as such, a DB administrator has a good understanding of RDBMS operation in general, good knowledge of best practices, and a passion for ensuring the highest standards of uptime through proactive monitoring, pre-emptive tuning and general attention to detail. In this role, you will be primarily responsible for MSSQL databases, with secondary responsibilities for databases from other vendors, so a desire to learn multiple platforms is key.

• Can work off Hours when needed

• Experience in virtualized environments

Qualifications

• At least 3-4 years’ experience as a DBA 

• Experience in Installation/Upgrades :

-though command line and/or using configuration file

-SQL Server versions (Clustered/Availability Groups…)

-Configure Replication

• Experience in Backup/Restore/Recovery :

-Full/Differential/Transaction log backup

-Full/Point-In-Time restore

-Testing backup methodology (test restore)

-Database Corruption recovery

• Experience in MSSQL HA/DR features :

-Failover Cluster Instances (FCI)

-Log shipping

-Mirroring

-Availability Groups

-Replication

• Experience in Troubleshooting :

-Troubleshooting Highly transactional databases

-High Availability and Disaster Recovery (Clustering / Availability Groups / LogShipping / Mirroring )

-DB Performance Issues (Optimised hardware, Optimised SQL configurations)

-SQL Incident Investigation (Logs/Audits/Monitor)

-Using wait statistics / DMVs

-Problematic Queries

-Analysing execution plan giving recommendations (indexing/rewriting query)

-Locking/Blocking process and how to resolve them

• Experience in Performance Tuning :

-Optimize queries

-Optimize server configuration

-Improve disk/storage layout

-Familiar with SQL versions and features
