Job Description - Maritime Subject Matter Expert

Prevention at Sea is an LR ISO 9001 & 27001 multi-awarded marine risk assessment company that offers maritime services for quality assurance as well as maritime software products with the aim to ensure fleet management optimization and data-driven decision making via paperless ship logs/records and big data analytics.

Job Outline

We are currently seeking to recruit a Maritime Subject Matter Expert to join our growing Product team. The ideal candidate will be reporting to the Chief Technology Officer, be responsible for the requirement gathering, monitoring the drafting of product documentation, guiding business analysists, designers and developers to implement new products and product features and participating in technical meetings with clients.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Software Product management such as the MORSE electronic ship logbooks web platform (Deck, ER, Oil Record, Ballast etc.) and RH Manager for the monitoring of work/rest hours on board ships.
  • Contributes to forming the product vision and strategy and communicate it across the team.
  • Ensure accurate collection, analysis, documentation and communication of the business requirements related to the company’s software products.
  • Gain a deep understanding of customer experience, identify and fill product gaps and generate new ideas that improve customer experience that drive growth.
  • Research, identify, review and analyze maritime regulations and requirements related to the product.
  • Convert maritime business requirements into functional specifications by ensuring proper user case studies, scripts providing clarity and clear requirements.
  • Manage requirements throughout the software’s development life cycle from conception to delivery.
  • Analyze and prioritize product change requests, features, bug fixing, business value and market demands.
  • Ensure proper and accurate records of versioning, features, client requests.
  • Daily interaction as necessary with the Maritime department, QA, software development and CTO to ensure the product meets client needs and business goals.
  • Train and support company members on maritime industry requirements, company’s new and existing products and features.
  • Implement UI/UX best practices using prototyping and design tools (i.e. moqups, figma).
  • Participate in forums, committees and client technical meetings to present company’s products.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Proven sea service on board ships.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and to learn independently.
  • Documentation and visualization master - provide consistent requirement documentation.
  • High attention to detail.
  • Problem-solving skills and ability to propose smart solutions.
  • Strong computer literacy and proficient in using Microsoft Office.
  • High organizational and detail-oriented mindset with good time management skills.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.

Nice to have:

  • Captain or Chief Engineer Sea service.
  • Shipping Studies.
  • Proven Trainer experience.
  • BSc/BA in Engineering, Computer Science or a related field.
  • Proven experience in business analysis.
  • Proven experience in Moqups/FIGMA software.
