Job Description

The Buying Director for Fashion Retail Stores is responsible for the implementation of the entire commercial strategy and leads, supervises and motivates the buying team, selecting the suppliers and goods to be available to the sales network, in accordance with the applicable commercial policy and specifications, carries out the commercial agreements with the cooperating suppliers and ensures the correct implementation of these agreements in accordance with the stated terms and deadlines, while monitoring market trends to best serve the commercial strategy of the Group.

Key Responsibilities:

  • As part of top management of the Business Unit, participates in the preparation of the commercial strategy, in collaboration with the General Manager and is responsible for its implementation, measuring the results, suggesting potential adjustments and preparing periodic or ad hoc reports to the GM.
  • Meets suppliers and negotiates terms of contracts - Maintains relationships with existing suppliers and sources new suppliers for future products.
  • Coordinates the smooth flow of orders for goods, packaging materials and samples, as well as the compliance with the terms of commercial agreements.
  • Analyzes and communicates business performance per point of sale.
  • Regularly reviews performance indicators, such as sales and discount levels.
  • Monitors the course of sales, by category of goods, in collaboration with the General Manager, the line managers and the suppliers, ensuring the timely product supply to the points of sales, both in normal season and in periods of increased needs (discount periods, special promotions etc.), in the proper items and quantities, at the same time monitoring and controlling the optimal level of stock.
  • Draws up, in collaboration with the suppliers, a product training plan for the sales staff, based on determined specifications.
  • Monitors Market and Competition trends, conducting surveys in Greece and abroad, in order to timely foresee and take advantage of future opportunities, making recommendations to the General Manager, towards the framework of commercial strategy.

Skills & Requirements:

  • At least 10 years of related professional experience in commercial sector (managerial level).
  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing / business / retail merchandising or related field.
  • Experienced working in fashion retail (multi label and multi category products, women’s wear, menswear, sportswear and kids wear).
  • Must have experience managing budget upwards of 1m€.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
  • Excellent judgment and decision-making skills.
  • Good organizational skills and the ability to multitask.
  • Able to influence and defend point of view.
  • Analyze problems timely and effectively.
  • Leadership attributes – Teamworking and interpersonal skills.
  • High level of market awareness and fashion trends.
  • Highly proficient in English language.
  • High proficiency in MS Word, Excel and Outlook and numeracy skills.
  • Must be willing to travel; Travel required 10%.
