Data Governance Specialist - Financial Institution

This prestigious Financial Institution is looking for a Data Governance Specialist with experience in Data Governance, Python, and SQL to join its dynamic business here in Hong Kong.

Your new role
As a Data Governance Specialist, you will play a key support role in driving organisation-wide Data Governance (DG) initiatives, with a strong focus on unstructured data management to enable AI readiness. You will support the adoption and operationalisation of the organisation-wide Data Governance Framework in alignment with our internal Data Policy, Data Management SOPs and industry best practices.

• Act as a core support member of the Data Governance team to drive organisation-wide data governance initiatives.
• Support the implementation and continuous refinement of the organisation-wide Data Governance Framework, standards, and controls, particularly for unstructured data management.
• Assist in the design and optimisation of tools and technology for implementing data governance, including metadata management, data access workflow, auto-classification and tagging, and data quality management.
• Support the adoption of unstructured data governance practices, including establishing ontology and managing taxonomy, and driving organisation-wide data tagging to enhance discoverability and AI readiness.
• Support data privacy, data protection, and data security compliance initiatives in alignment with regulatory and internal requirements.
• Monitor governance effectiveness and recommend continuous improvements.

What you'll need to succeed

• We expect the ideal candidate to have 1 year + experience in data management and data governance (with technical background), preferably within Technology, Banking or Financial Services.
• Solid experience in data governance and data management disciplines, including metadata management, data classification and tagging, data privacy and data protection, data security and access controls, data quality management, etc.
• Hands-on experience with data governance tools and platforms (e.g., data catalogue, data lineage, data quality tools), and the ability to leverage them to operationalise the Data Governance Framework.
• Understanding of the data governance foundation required for AI readiness, such as Text-to-Insights, AI knowledge bases, semantic search, and model training. Experience or exposure to unstructured data management for AI readiness is a plus, e.g., auto-classification, ontology development and data tagging etc.
• Experience in implementing data protection and security controls for personal data and sensitive information is a plus.
• Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to cooperate with various technical teams to implement the Data Governance Framework, as well as the ability to influence and drive business stakeholders on governance adoption.
• Hands-on technical capability, including:
  • Proficiency in SQL for data extraction, transformation, profiling, and analysis
    
  • Working knowledge of Python for data processing, automation, text mining, and basic machine learning
    
  • Experience in developing scripts or automation workflows to support data tagging, classification, metadata enrichment, or governance controls
    
  • Familiarity with API integration and RESTful API calls for system connectivity and tool integration
