Financial Controller (6-9 months contract)

About The Role

We are seeking an experienced and qualified Finance Controller for a leading global investment management firm. Based in HK, this is a high-impact role responsible for overseeing all finance, accounting, and regulatory reporting for their SFC-licensed entities. The ideal candidate will be a hands-on finance professional who can ensure seamless continuity, rigorous financial control, and full regulatory compliance as well as strong data analytics skills, working closely with local and global teams.

Summary of the role and key responsibilities

• Oversee end-to-end corporate accounting, financial reporting, and multi-currency management accounts, delivering timely and accurate analytical insights.
• Produce/ review SFC’s Financial Resources Rules (FRR), managing all related calculations, monitoring, and reporting.
• Manage treasury, cash flow planning, and liquidity to safeguard operational funding and maintain regulatory capital buffers.
• Supervise the expense management process, including vendor payments, contracts, and employee expense claims, ensuring strong controls and policy adherence.
• Collaborate with HR and Operations on compensation-related matters, including payroll processing and staff rewards.
• Act as a key point of contact for regulators, auditors, and tax authorities, coordinating audits and ensuring timely submissions.

Key skills required

• Qualified accountant (CPA, ACCA, or equivalent) with 7-15 years of progressive experience in financial and regulatory reporting.
• Must have proven experience within an SFC-licensed financial institution or a similarly regulated environment.
• Expert knowledge of Hong Kong accounting standards and deep familiarity with SFC regulatory requirements, especially FRR.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across functions.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel. Experience with Power BI, SQL, or VBA is a strong advantage.
• Outstanding interpersonal skills in English. Fluency in Cantonese or Mandarin is a plus.
