Technical Officer (Ref. 230419006-IE)
Duties The appointee will be required to:
(a) manage Materials and Mechanics Technology laboratory and Thermo-science laboratory, and ensure the laboratories’ safety standards in compliance with code of practice;
(b) be familiar with the operations of equipment installed in the laboratories and be able to provide instructions to users on the proper use of equipment under the supervision of the Technical Support Group Leader; (c) provide training to new users on the use of equipment and ensure the new users to be able to acquire the necessary knowledge of operating the equipment; (d) keep an updated inventory, and maintain laboratory facilities and working environment in good conditions;
(e) support academic staff in conducting laboratory classes;
(f) assist the Technical Support Group Leader in conducting investigations on the cause of equipment damages, and provide solutions to users in case of mal-functioning of the equipment;
(g) assist in research, consultancy activities and projects for staff and students as directed;
(h) assist in any activities that contribute to the smooth operation of the Unit as assigned by the Technical Support Group Leader; and (i) perform any other duties as assigned by the Head of Unit or his delegates.
Qualifications
Applicants should have:
(a) a recognised degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Analysis and Engineering Design, Electronic Engineering, or a related discipline;
(b) at least five years of post-qualification working experience in mechanics or electronics fields and be familiar with CAD and computer graphics applications such as SolidWorks; (c) strong analytical skills, good interpersonal and communication skills;
(d) a willingness to learn to master the laboratory equipment and laboratory safety;
(e) a good command of both spoken and written in English and Chinese.
Conditions of Service
A highly competitive remuneration package will be offered. Initial appointment will be on a fixed-term gratuity-bearing contract. Re-engagement thereafter is subject to mutual agreement.
