Job Description - DEPUTY CEO / MANAGING DIRECTOR

About Resolve Foundation
At Resolve Foundation, we want to make Hong Kong, our home, a place where everyone feels they belong. Under the auspices of our 2020-2024 Strategic Plan, Resolve has moved from a single-program offering (our signature fellowship for community changemakers) to a diversified portfolio that includes an Opportunity Fund, public education campaigns, corporate partnerships and a forthcoming pilot program in secondary schools. In 2024, Resolve will be developing our next multi-year strategic plan.

 

Purpose of the role and responsibilities

 

To herald this chapter, we are seeking a key senior leadership C-Suite position, “second-in-command” to the Founder & CEO. You come into this role as a seasoned professional, but we are also open to a person with an upstart, growth mindset and potential to grow and develop. You also have an understanding of the Hong Kong social landscape, and both the challenges and opportunities in working in a medium-sized non-subvented nonprofit that is moving from a startup to growth stage.


You would serve as ambassador for the organization among internal and external stakeholders and a key custodian of Resolve’s brand and reputation. You are comfortable and adept in key areas of organizational development, including, project management, operations, human resources, fundraising and budgeting, risk mitigation and strategy. You come with a strong commitment to organizational excellence, accountability, learning and continuous improvement.

 

You understand factors that make for a high-performing team, facilitating collaboration, unlocking the talent of the people you manage to their best potential and deploying resources to the areas most in need. You would also play an important role in improving the efficiency of our operations, ensuring the capacity of our systems, infrastructure and processes to allow us to achieve our goals, creating guidance and leadership for the whole team to follow.



Job Scope

 

Leadership
● Supports hiring and directly manages team members, supporting them to set ambitious yet realistic goals, motivating and empowering them through effective delegation and development.
● Forms part of the senior leadership team and a key liaison between staff and the board, preparing, participating in and following up with meetings of the board and its working groups.
● Serves as a key cultural carrier, role model and source of guidance for others, helping to drive team cohesion and morale, and a safe and inclusive workplace for others.
● Along with senior management, actively contributes to setting Resolve’s organizational strategy, and initiates the creation of new policies and procedures.
● Protect Resolve’s brand, reputation and interests by taking necessary actions to anticipate, assess, manage and mitigate risks and help the team to navigate uncertainty and crises.


Operations
● Manages the organization’s day-to-day operations, and works to set organizational standards, identifying gaps in meeting them and problem-solving to remedy them. 
● Incorporates into our operations best practices in the nonprofit and diversity, equity and inclusion space to the best of Resolve’s ability and means.
● Facilitates communication among the team, and instills methods, systems, standard operating procedures and behaviors that safeguard institutional productivity and knowledge transfer.
● Ensures that Resolve is legally compliant with all relevant laws and regulations applicable to the organization.
● Develops organizational budgets and reviews them against financials on a regular basis, highlighting key risks and making appropriate decisions, together with the senior management.


Fundraising
● Together with the board and CEO, spearheads the development of Resolve’s fundraising strategy, with SMART, data-driven targets that leverage Resolve’s strengths and edge.
● Leverages Resolve’s CRM to develop and manage Resolve’s institutional donor pipeline and calendar, leading on grant applications and responsive donor relationship management.
● Builds effective partnerships that can find synergies with companies’ ESG agendas, activate leadership across departments and drive robust corporate contributions to our mission.
● Creatively explores new areas for drawing unrestricted income, and comes up with a practical execution plan to test, trial and iterate these in resource-appropriate ways.
● Builds the capacity of our board, staff, volunteers and larger Resolve community to actively contribute to fundraising within their circles of influence and networks.


Communications
● Leads the communications team create annual strategies that grow our supporter base and develop Resolve’s brand and ensure team-wide consistency.
● Strategizes opportunities to amplify our message in the media and garner publicity and ensures that media relations and outreach are strong, consistent and responsive to the news cycle.
● Proactively seeks and engages in high-level public speaking for Resolve, articulating our work convincingly to a variety of audiences, and enables others in the organization to do so too.
● Creates a concrete plan and yearly milestones for Resolve to become a fully bilingual organization in the coming years in our marketing materials and content.
● Works with the senior management to build up Resolve’s materials and resources as a thought leader advancing new norms and changing mindsets around DEI and social justice.



Key Skills and Requirements
● At least ten years of work experience and at least three at senior level, with a proven track record of supporting an organization to develop and grow sustainably.
● At least a Bachelor's degree in a related field, and coming in with relevant certifications in ESG, DEI, governance, nonprofit management is a plus.
● Already has permission to work in Hong Kong and strong familiarity with the nuances of the Hong Kong landscape, especially in relation to the social sector.
● Superb written and oral communication (bilingual in Chinese and English preferred), and a persuasive executive presence, including in improvised settings.
● Tech savvy with proficiency in key software required for the role, including Microsoft Office, Google platform, e-conference platforms such as Zoom and Microsoft Teams and CRM (Salesforce a plus).
● Adept in complex project management, requiring coordination of multiple parties, able to prioritize, pivot and act decisively when needed and use time effectively.
● Approaches situations with emotional and cultural intelligence, demonstrates a growth mindset approach, actively invests in one’s own and others’ learning and development.
● Ability to think out-of-the-box and approach problems creatively, while also able to garner buy-in and support for them, turn these ideas into actionable steps and goal-oriented outcomes.
● Demonstrated enthusiasm and passion for Resolve’s mission and for community empowerment and social inclusion.

 

Location
Sheung Wan, Hong Kong. Resolve allows for remote working for a few days of the working week.

Given the seniority of this position, shortlisting of the final candidate will involve a recruitment panel consisting of senior management and board. The ideal candidate could be available to start by July 2024, if possible.



Salary & Benefits
HK$38,000 - HK$45,000 depending on the level of experience and competencies. Resolve’s salaries are based on a competency framework and corresponding internal salary bands that give reference to the HKCSS Salary Survey and other job market reports. Several benefits include some options for flexible working, health and dental insurance, carer’s leave, opportunities for training and development, a culture of wellbeing and team-building, and above-market levels of annual leave.

Depending on the circumstances and profile of the individual, we are open to receiving applications from candidates who might be seeking a part-time schedule with a limit of 80%.
