BASF is currently building a new Verbund site in Zhanjiang, Guangdong province which is planned to reach start up in 2025. BASF Guangdong Verbund site project will globally be BASF's largest investment with approx. EUR10 billion upon completion and operated under the sole responsibility of BASF. The site will ultimately be BASF's third-largest site worldwide, and it will be a role model for smart manufacturing and sustainable production by utilizing the latest digital technologies, applying the highest safety standards and relaying solely on renewable energy. The Legal Team consists of five qualified and experienced lawyers including the Vice President Legal leading the team and reporting to the Managing Director of the Company. The legal team is located in Zhanjiang and Shanghai. The legal counsel now being looked for may be located in Zhanjiang or Shanghai, preferably in midst of the action in Zhanjiang with two other colleagues working in Zhanjiang. Tasks:
. Supporting project team to handle all matters related to contract (EPC contract, construction contract, equipment purchase contract, and service contract etc.) executions
. Claim management (including working with internal project team and working with external counsels if necessary)
. Negotiating multiple contracts for the operation of a multidivisional chemical plants like raw material contracts, renewable energy contracts, and other infrastructure, utility and service contracts
. Supporting Commissioning & Start Up, such as supporting the management of changes after Mechanical Completion and prior to Ready for Start Up
. Negotiating and implementing agreements with joint venture partners and other strategic partners related to the project
. Advising on compliance topics (including trainings and cases handling). Requirements:
. At least 8 years post qualification experience in legal support of investment related and operation related contracts
. Preferably with prior experience either in engineering companies or in respectively specialized team in law firm
. To be in Zhanjiang / Shanghai with willingness to travel within China
. Interest to become member of an agile inhouse legal team
. Able to work independently, with high intrinsic motivation
. Hands-on, able to prioritize tasks and workload, managing tight deadlines
. Fluent - with legal working proficiency - in English and Mandarin
. Good drafting and negotiation skills
