In this role, you will have the opportunity to improve people's life through meaningful innovation

  • As the lead mechanical engineer, you will develop Oral Healthcare products, systems and/or solutions with external ODM/OEM suppliers and according to the V-model. Satisfies user and business requirements by applying internal and external research results, and technology advancements, while taking care of the total system and the inner workings of a design.

You are responsible for

  • Manage ODM/OEM projects to ensure that the solution will meet business and product requirements, and the processes are in line with project guidelines, directives, and comply to quality management system
  • Collaborate with the ODM/OEM suppliers, to develop high-volume consumer medical devices in the oral healthcare domain.
  • Capable in architecting, designing, documenting, and implementing high quality mechanical solutions on multiple platforms across multiple product ranges. This includes but is not limited to:

    • The design, check and optimization, realization and integration, life-cycle management, and verification of products, systems and/or solutions in the domain of mechanical engineering.
    • Develops the work with focus on user and business requirements, compliance, quality and cost. Develops high level and detailed designs in accordance with the product requirements and Philips reference architecture requirements.
    • Combines existing and/or prescribed elements and parts into products, systems and/or solutions.
    • Evaluate the mechanical design and integration, verification plans for the developed mechanical solution. Drive optimization with suppliers.
    • Maintains an outside-in approach for the designs created.
    • Is responsible for delivering input in the planning process to the project manager. Draws up personal schedules and reports on progress in a structured and methodical way.
    • Contribute to the estimation of the required development effort and run-time resources

  • This position is part of the Oral Healthcare team and is based in the Philips Innovation Center in Shenzhen China, with occasional travel to innovation center in Bothell (Seattle, WA), USA. This position should be capable of drive project execution on accelerating innovations through ODM/OEM partnerships external to Philips.

To succeed in this role, you'll need a customer-first attitude and the following

  • Bachelor/Master degree in mechanical or manufacturing engineering
  • 10+ years of relevant working experience, owning/leading mechanical development in projects from idea through implementation
  • Demonstrated design experience in electro-mechanical product development and material selection for mass manufacturing, in particular injection, molded parts, sheet metal parts and design for assembly
  • Demonstrated technical leadership skills in a multi-discipline engineering project environment, including working with development suppliers.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work with people globally and all levels of the organization
  • Demonstrated experience in technical problem solving
  • Demonstrated good technical documentation skills
  • Experience with finite element analysis for static and dynamic stresses
  • Experience with design of experiments
  • Experience with requirements flow down from customer level to components level
  • Experience with rapid prototyping method
  • Hands-on knowledge in Six Sigma DFSS, certification is preferred
  • Preferably experience within a regulated industry (medical devices highly desirable, along with knowledge of Product Lifecycle Management, FDA Quality System Regulations, and ISO 13485).
  • Practical CAD experience, Creo 4.0 preferred.
  • Fluent in English (both writing and verbal) and preferably fluent in Mandarin
  • Logical thinking and demonstrated competencies on handling multiple tasks.
